So here's the deal:
I got accepted to NYU ED (Steinhardt for MCC, Yay!) and am stuck between these three residence halls. I know it's probably a little too early to be thinking about this, but I'm excited lol

If anyone could add any little bit of information about the dorms in any of these places I'd greatly appreciate it, especially pictures!

Some things I'm really interested in are the view (not important, but it's always nice not to be facing a side of the building), the closets, room size (especially of the low cost dorms), and anything else you feel like adding (like maybe cool rooms or bad rooms and experiences?), the more information the better!
Thanks!

Oh, and I'm open to other residence halls too, these are just the ones that stuck out to me :)

Personally, I’m leaning toward Founders because I stayed there for a couple nights and it was excellent - heating and A/C and really large rooms.

Hi, Here are more pictures of Founders Hall:

[Photos from NYU Founders Hall [12th St] 2013 | Facebook](Facebook)

Founders Hall has nice views from the higher floors (not sure where the views begin, above 9th or something like that). The rooms facing north have the upper Manhattan view looking towards Chrysler building and Empire State Building (not sure all the north facing views have that view though, may be depends on the location of the room, but most high floors should have a decent view towards skyline). South facing rooms face lower Manhattan and a far glimpse of Manhattan Bridge? with the downtown buildings (the original new immigrants’ set foot area of Manhattan!).

Founders is indeed spacious and modern looking. All rooms appear the same, maybe some difference with corner rooms? It looks new, of course, being the second year residents have lived there. However, my son’s bedroom (on a high floor), while boasting a nice city view looking south, has a bad sewage smell in the bathroom. It was really bad right before Welcome Week when sonny got in. He called maintenance and was told the odor would clear up once residents moved in and the system supposedly would clear up with the greater use of the system (hah?). My hubby used it in one of the visits and claimed the smell was still unpleasant in the bathroom.

Other than that, my son says the walk is not bad to campus. In fact, he likes being a little farther away from the heart of NYU school buildings. He eats at Palladium, which he says has better food than 3 North (also close by). I just ate there recently with him and the choices were sufficient to good.

I am concerned about the walk to school as winter and the cold set in. I got sonny heavy duty snow boots and a heavy Parka, in addition to several sets of thermal underwear.

Sonny really likes Founders. He says he could not have made it in any other dorm because of all his musical instruments.

GL. I just spoke about Founders because it is the one I know the best via sonny and my visits there to see sonny.

If you’re looking for luxury then go with Founders. It’s a tad far from campus, but all sophomore dorms are equally as distant so living in Founders (or 3N for that matter) will get you used to the walk. In other words, if you’re going to be a baby about the weather, the only time you can get away with it is freshmen year, cuz then you can stay in Hayden (which is the choice you want to take if you can’t handle the cold). I came from California and I live in Hayden and it’s actually pretty damn convenient to live there. It’s close by and there’s a dining hall (which isn’t that good though).

If I were to choose again, I’d choose either Founders or 3N because those two dorms have more room (especially 3N). I was stiffed with the smallest room on my floor, but it’s cozy and I interact with my roommate a lot. He’s actually my best friend =]. Anyhow, 3N is only nice if you get the good tower because I hear that two of the towers aren’t so great. Founders guarantees you a nice room.

Seems most Ed’s are between these 3 dorms. Does anyone know the difference between a shared studio 2 students and 2 room suite 4 students? The price is the same, do you get 2 bathrooms in the suite, bigger rooms etc?
If not I would think you are better off in the studio.

I am addressing Founders only. It appears that most rooms comprise of suites with 2 studios, with each studio shared by two students. There is only one bathroom for the 4 students in the 2 room suites.

On each floor, there is a handicapped studio for 2 students, available for non-handicapped students only if no handicapped students fill the 2 student suite. This would be a studio suite for 2 with a bath shared by 2 people only.

Wow, thanks so much for all the info everyone! Really appreciate it! I think I’m going to pick from Founders and 3N

@allnycolleges: I hear good things about Brittany, so far the only complaints I hear is about the no A/C and closet space, but apparently closet space differs cuz I hear some people talking about a ‘very limited space’ while others talk about ‘walk in closets’ Hope that helps!

I can answer questions about Brittany. While it was not listed as a low-cost option, D’s room there was very low cost and comparable to the listed LCTs. The reason? No air conditioning, but don’t fear, it was only hot the first couple of weeks! Since then, that has been no problem.

D’s triple is HUGE with very, very large closet space. The location at 10th and Broadway is excellent for her studio and the Tisch building, dining halls at Weinstein, 3N and Palladium, and not too far to anywhere on the Washington Street Campus. The room has its own bathroom, so the three girls are not sharing with suitemates.

Brittany has a lot of charm, too. That means it’s kind of old, but who else gets a penthouse lounge that was at one time a speakeasy? There is also a resident ghost, I’m told, but she’s harmless.

D was devastated at first when assigned to Brittany because it was her fifth choice, and I will admit the first two weeks were pretty hot and sticky, but she soon came to love it.

All that being said, I think every freshman needs an open mind. You may not get your first, second, or third choice. You may think you have been sent to Siberia…but really, all the dorms have their positives. Good luck.
