Founding a New Club

Hi,

Im a Sophomore right now who is looking to build some EC activities and leadership positions in school. My school doesnt have a National Honor Society Club and I hear its looks really good on a college app if you aer founder and president of a club such as this one. Does anybody know what steps i should do to create this club next year (my jr year)? Thanks

Hmm, interesting, I didn't know students can create clubs... I would love to create one that is not present in my school, this is a great question, I would love to see it answered. :D

My D founded an Interact Club at her school. It's affiliated with Rotary International so check with your local Rotary or the website http://www.rotary.org/. I assume that Founder and President looks good.

Yes, leadership is a plus. Be ready to answer the question, 'What was your impact as leader in this area? What did you accomplish?'

Don't start something if you're not passionate about it and willing to contribute a lot toward it.

Each school has their own rules about creating clubs. There are usually school sponsored clubs with school funding and student clubs which need a faculty staff as sponsor but they(faculty) don't run it. Funding is different for each type. My D started one her junior year , continued and expanded senior year and it was an amazing experience extremely time consumming but she learned a lot and the club will continue even though she is leaving .When she started the club she ran around doing everything herself, there were 15 members. Senior year she learned to delegate, and had great officers helping her. The club grew to 5 times the size and she was not as stressed running it. They accomplished a lot more. It was a great lesson in leadership!
