founding member of a club?

Okay, so what if some senior began a debate team in your school when you were a freshman? And then that senior did little, and you basically took all the responsiblities of the president for the fledgling club since u luv debate? So, I finally did become co-president sophomore year and now am prez junior year. Nevertheless, would that be considered as being a "founding member" of a club? I was always confused on that. LOL I would greatly appreciate any input! :D

I don't know if that would qualify as a FOUNDING member, since you didn't found it.

But I would definitely tell colleges that you played a very important role in your debate team. You did more than your president and you may very well have contributed more than anyone else. Colleges would want to know that. Explain what you did and how your role was more important. Consider getting a recommendation from the supervisor of the debate team or something like that. Just get the message across that you played an instrumental role in the team's success or whatever it is. Focus on that more than the name of the role.

The debate club's founder sounds like someone who founded a club just to impress colleges. That's not what schools want. Schools want someone who actually involves himself/herself in the club. That's why you have to get this across. Good for you!

reminds me of my school math club. Trying to become the first president of the math club ever (displays leadership role, right?)

thanks. and unfortunately the debate advisor who witnessed all this has left. we then got a second one...he left too. LOL Now, I'm trying to help out my team on my own to raise money b4 school starts for competitions (we have like none) and just pray we get a nice stable advisor! LOL

It seems that you're intimately involved w/the club. The "founding" status won't matter much, to be frank. One last thing: avoid starting sentences with "Okay, so..." or "So,...."

Good luck w/your sr. year.
