I’m stuck on arranging my fall/summer schedule.
I’ve talked to my advisor and she says no to the following:
I need to take Algebraic Group Theory and Advanced Calculus at some point. I thought about taking one or both of them during the summer. Group theory is a class that, according to our grade distributions for that class, most people don’t pass or typically no one makes an A–Especially during the summer. I’m not so much scared about not making an A, but the fact that most people end up failing… Eh.
Here’s what my schedule looks like for next fall:
Statistics
Group Theory
Partial DiffEq
Advanced Calculus
Foreign Language
Multicultural
Which comes out to 18 hours. I can barely handle 12 hours (all math) this semester, but I’ve also had several new health difficulties this semester that made it tough(er). I wouldn’t be working, either in the summer or in the fall. I can get rid of the foreign language in the summer which will reduce my load to 15 hours in the fall. But I can’t take it at my current university (as it stands right now since everything’s full) and I would be taking it at a community college online instead. Grade wouldn’t matter since the grade won’t transfer directly.
I could also push Group Theory to next spring, but I’m not sure if the math department would give bottom-rung priority and time slot to the instructor of that class to where it’s just terrible and agonizing all semester long.
Suggestions/tips/insight? I appreciate anything anyone can give.
