Four Year Schedule-Suggestions?

I've recently compiled a list of the classes I plan to take in high school. First, I'll list the classes I took this year (I'm a freshmen by the way):

Algebra 2 w/Trigonometry
English 9 Honors
Pre-AP World History
Honors Biology
Drama 1
PE 9
Latin 2

Classes I plan to take sophomore year:

Math Analysis (extremely fast paced class covering Pre-calculus and Calc AB topics)
English 10 Honors
AP World History
Physics
Chemistry
PE 10 + Drivers Ed
Latin 3

Junior year (suicide year...):

AP Calculus BC
English 11 Honors (doubling up on AP English classes isn't allowed...)
AP US History
AP Physics
AP Chemistry
AP Econ (Macro/Micro)
Latin 4

Senior year (all APs!):

AP Statistics (concurrently taking Linear Algebra, Multivar the summer before)
AP Language/Comp
AP Government
AP Biology
AP Psychology
AP Computer Science (computer math taken the summer before)
AP Latin Virgil

So, what do you think? Anything look completely unmanageable? I have a wide berth of extra curricular activities as well, so take that into consideration. My sister says I should switch AP Bio with AP Chem or Physics. However, I think it'd be easier to take AP Chem and Physics the year after I take regular, so that the material will be fresh in my mind. Which classes are the most difficult? Chem, physics, and Econ? That's what I've been hearing. Please give your thoughts!

lol have fun senior year

It seems to me that senior year might not be as bad as junior or even sophomore year. I’ve heard that AP Latin is a joke at my school, so that shouldn’t be too difficult. The rest seem fairly easy (AP Bio might be the exception, but my sis has an A plus in that class).

Bump. Has anyone taken combinations of these classes that were really difficult to manage? What are the hardest classes you’ve taken thus far? All help is appreciated.

Honestly, I wouldn’t plan out all four of your years at first. You might realize while taking some of your freshman and sophomore years that you hate certain classes. That and you might not be able to take all the classes at the same time due to scheduling conflicts, so don’t get too attached to your plan.

Thanks for the criticism. Though I’m not sure it was very constructive… Do you have any suggestions regarding what I should do? I’m very good at math–I’ve got a 102 in Alg 2 with Trig. Plus I’m the only person in my Honors Bio class to have an A plus, and I was the only student to get an A plus on the exam (next highest was 91). With this in mind, do you have any further input?

Honors biology freshman class != Taking 3 Ap Math/Sciences at the same time. 2, sure, but 3 is ridiculous. Drop either AP Physics or Chem.
You’ll understand when you get out of the baby freshman classes.

Just wondering, what happened to geometry?

Also this is just absolutely ridiculous.

What do you mean? In our school system, geometry is taken before Algebra 2. Also, I’m committed to taking all of the classes listed. I just need advice as to the classes I need to switch around. Further, I don’t see how anyone who’s a seasoned participant of CC to view this schedule as ‘absolutely ridiculous’. I’ve personally been reading the forum for just a few months and have seen many students who have taken on schedules of this caliber and greater. Please, I don’t need scorn. Just advice.

Oh, ok, so you’ve already taken geometry then? Sorry, it works differently at our school…

OK, look, I took 3 APs Junior year and 5 Senior year and anymore and my grades would go down. It’s that simple. I just don’t see why you feel the need to do this to yourself. You may even be able to come out of this schedule with pretty close to a 4.00, but you’re going to be sacrificing a social life, sleep, exercise, and a plethora of other things that are way more important. It’s just not worth it; and you don’t need THAT many APs to get into Harvard if that’s what you want.

I’m a sophomore and here’s my schedule:

AP English Language and Composition
AP Calculus AB
AP Spanish Language and Composition
AP European History
AP Biology
AP Computer Science AB
AP Environmental Science

I’m also taking a ‘Introduction to Classical Literature’ dual enrollment course at my local community college.

I have been managing about 95+ in all these classes, some even above 100 (BIO and COMPSCI). In addition, I’m also self studying AP Art History and AP US Comparative Government.

On top of this, I’m currently doing cross country in the fall and tennis in the spring. I also intern at a lab at my local university, two hours every evening, three times a week. I do 200 hours of community service per year, which equates to around 20 hours a month.

President of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Academic Decathlon, Secretary of Rotary Club, Treasurer of (My Town’s Name) International (community service club).

I have already taken the SATI and scored 2380 on it (780 CR, 800 W, 800 M). Already taken the SATII MATHII (800) and CHEMISTRY (800). Last year I took 4 APs.

Nice hijack. But nice stats, anyways. I do cross country and tennis too! I wish I knew what school you went to. Mine doesn’t even offer APs freshmen year. Unless you’re a ■■■■■… In which case, kindly leave this thread.

@Minnesota guy: Doesn’t it look bad if you’re not taking the hardest course load possible? My aspirations are to go to an Ivy or something of the sort. I’ve gotten straight A pluses all year in all of my classes. Is it wrong for me to seek a challenge/my full potential?

that was a ■■■■■ post. I’m actually a senior; took 2 APs soph, and 3 APs junior, 4 APs senior

your course load looks pretty good. it’s a bad idea to stack 2 AP sciences with BC, that will kill you

better yet take one of the AP phys or Chem during soph year, that will balance yourself

I will tell you this: Have fun with sleepless nights and disconnect your computer from the internet and burn all your video games. While you are at it, start reading Feynman Lectures on Physics. and just go straight into AP Physics.

I’m pretty sure I have to take regular chem and physics before I take the APs (at least in my schools system). It does sound grueling, but I have a few friends who have taken on similar loads and are managing. How’s econ?

econ is just busywork (essays, projects, presentations, homework)

Thanks, how’s the exam? Anyone else taken a similar course load and survived? Suggestions?

@theeboy3: Ahaha, the ■■■■■ post cracked me up, but it doesn’t become funny when you realize kids like that exist. o.o

I have a similar course load. And surprisingly, I’m not a ■■■■■. -gasp- I’m currently a junior, keep in mind.

Freshman year: (3.96 GPA. All A’s except an A- in Honors Lit)
AP Micro Economics
AP Macro Economics
Honors Precalculus
Honors Literature
Honors Critical Writing and Analysis
Honors Biology
AP World History
Honors Spanish

Sophomore year: (Slacker year) (4.0 GPA)
AP European History
AP Calculus BC (I skipped AB)
AP Biology
AP Literature
Honors Chemistry
Honors Spanish II

Junior year: (Hell year. Hell.) (4.0… hopefully?)
AP Chemistry
Math Capstone - Category Theory (I’m the only kid in the class now since the seniors have left)
AP US History
AP Statistics
AP Computer Science
Honors Spanish III
AP English Language and Composition
Honors Physics
AP Physics C Mechanics and E/M (Self-study)
AP Environmental Science (Self-study)

I’ll have 15 APs at the end of this year. It would have been 17 if I hadn’t skip Calc AB or Physics B.

Right now, I’m just dreading AP week, but honestly, after I finish the exams, I’ll eventually forget about the tough times and look back on my accomplishments.

Economics is indeed busywork. I took it Freshman year and I got 5’s on Micro and Macro. It’s basically rote memorization and basic algebra.

Senior year, I don’t think I’m going to be taking anymore APs (besides AP Gov which is now required by the state of Arizona), and I’m going to do some outside research along with some “Capstone” classes which my school offers. Honestly, if you have the brainpower and willpower, you should manage. I would tell you to push yourself even harder, if possibility arises. My 7th grade cousin is in PreCalc which is one year faster than me, and frankly, I’m jealous I wasn’t offered the same opportunity he had. Try to self study Precalculus (seeing how Pre-Calculus is Algebra 2 on steroids) and even Calc AB and ask your school to allow you to skip Calc AB. Why not take some APs in your freshman year? If the school won’t let you take the courses, self study them! Some of the easier ones (i.e. Psych, Environmental Science) should be manageable without a formal class.

Depending on your intellect, the AP tests themselves aren’t too difficult. Most of them (from the experienced of my numerous past AP exams) were really just “how fast can you stuff information in your head the day before the exam?” kind of things.

If you have any specific questions on any AP exam or your schedule, feel free to ask.

@NotSoProdigious
Due to my school only having Physics B and the class being a year long(don’t get me started), I’m gonna have to self study both the Physics C’s. Is the material so dependent on Physics B that I would need to take it first, or can I do them alongside each other? Due to the terrible way my school schedules and the pointless prerequisites I probably can’t take it until Senior year unless I undergo some major schedule modifications.

(Sorry about the semi-rant thread, I need to vent)
