Would it make an application more competitive if one took spanish all throughout high school? What I want to do is take AP Psychology instead of AP Spanish 4 senior year because I will enjoy it more. But if it will make my application less competitive, then I would rather take the extra year of Spanish. Please help. Thanks.

Do what you wanna do ... if the college isn't going to take you over that one course they weren't gonna take you anyway.

Haha, you're almost in the exact same boat I am. I want to take AP Psych (They took 50 kids, I'm #51, so I have to wait to find out if I get in if someone drops etc.), and this year I took AP Span but next year I'd take Span 5. I'd say go with Spanish, if I were a college I'd rather see an AP language than AP Psych.

go with spanish. Psych is bound to better as a college class.

Schools love four years of the same language and schools like Wesleyan are on public record as saying that they slightly penalize a student for taking less than four years of a language in their process.

Schools are going to examine your core subjects and often times they will even recompute a GPA based on your cores; I'm referring to:

Language
English
Math
Science
History

I would not avoid taking a higher level language for a Psy course; it's not a make or break issue, but sticking with the same language for all 4 years is irrefutably the safe move from an admissions perspective.

Psychology is a great class to take... colleges like to see student take classes like that... especially if you are going into the medical field... I am taking Spanish 4AP but i would have definately taken Psych if i didnt complete it already.
