Would FT be the dorm that qualifies most as the "Freshman dorm"? Are there any other dorms with a sizeable Freshman population?

I just got a letter from a residence hall called like Tropicana Garden or something that said that 70 percent of the students there are freshmen. I think Francisco Torres is the most popular though.

i also got a letter from a residence hall called tropicana garden. it sounds nice but it is privately owned and i didnt see anything about pricing. but i'm sure to check it out when i go visit next weekend during the open house thing

Because Tropicana Garden is privately owned, it houses 250 SBCC students and 250 UCSB students. I'd rather go to a UCSB-only dorm.

For a full year, it costs from $12K to $15K. You can find a lot about it on this link:

Tropicana Gardens - August & September Move-In Information 2007

Trop also houses all of the athletes. ;)

FT is wayyy too crazy, and that bike ride gets old. I know a TON of people who had to get switched out of there to an oncampus dorm since it was so bad. But if you like sex and drinking and puking at 4am EVERY NIGHT, go for it :).

Anacapa, ftw.

really now? even on the substance free hall?

Substance-Free is a joke, because they all drink ;). People go to FT to party/puke, and then go back to their own nice dorms, lol.

Aronomy, as a parent, you're scaring me. Come on now, I have a daughter. Party, drink and puke? Ugh.

Why does Tropicana get students emails? That "spam" doesn't seem right.

Is this a recommendation? If not FT, what Freshman laden dorm do you recommend?

cause the tropicana is privately owned and they need money from students who want to reside there on a "better than the school" dorm

pARKING IS A MAJOR CONCERN FOR ME AND FT HAS THE MOST... BUT I DONT ONLY WANT TO PARTY.... SCHOOL FIRST................ WHAT OTHER DORM HAS LOTS OF PARKING?

None of the other dorms have exclusive parking...but you can try and apply for a parking permit August 1 (I think it is) if you need parking and are not in FT. However, it is first-come-first-serve and not really guaranteed.

My parents are telling me I can't stay at FT, but I really want to got there.

why cant you stay at FT?

It's off-campus and they don't like the partying. I really like the fact it has a swimming pool and fitness center though, and I don't mind the ten minute bike ride. It also seems like the best place for the freshman dorm experience. My friend stayed there for a summer camp and he said it was really nice.

I don't understand this? They are going to prohibit you hearsay?

Have them think about it in a logical fashion. All of the campus-run dorms are going to have the SAME rules and regulations. All of them are probably gonna have a fairly consistent distribution of people. Following that logic, and everything I have read, your dorm experience is probably going to be consistent no matter the dorm you choose.

Tropicana Gardens = not that nice

theres also a lot of sbcc students there

it seemed more like an apartments to me tho, and i dont think you have to deal with ra's. My friends who live there seemed like they could get away with anything there. Id just go with campus housing.

And a 10 minute bike ride might not seem like much now, but when your doing it everyday, and you have to go all the way back possibly in between classes it will be inconvenient.

My cousin told me this weekend while I was in SB that Francisco Torres is known as F**k Towers.

hahaha. if I go to UCSB I'm not so sure I want to live there!
