I was staying with a friend this last friday, carrying over to spring insight day. IT was crazy. Substance free floor really isn't substance free but, sorry parents, it's college, and I"m sure you did it to. To say that all the people were constantly horny is to say that all the college freshman (a bunch of 18) year olds had hormones...check. FT is a little farther from campus and yeah, I did end up going to a party in Isla Vista, but, to the parents who are worried, if your Daughter or Son really want to have sex, it's going to happen, if htey don't, it won't. FT is an awsome dorm, the pool is beautiful, and the fitness center is nice, but in reality, it's just a dorm.

FT=Santa Catalina?

how much does is cost and whats the best alternative for housing (non-partying?)

that is also true of any dorms on campus

LOL they had to rename FT to Santa Catalina because everyone called it F*** Towers…

well they’ve named themselves s3x castles now

hahahaha! Sex Castles! amazing!!!

Okay guys, I am a parent, but you can tell me the truth–;)

When and why did they change the name of FT to Santa Catalina?

And what were they hoping to accomplish through that name change if the dorm itself remains essentially the same???

Just wondering…

They wanted to continue the pattern of naming the dorms after the Channel Islands. The other dorms, with the exception of Manzanita, are named after the Channel Islands (Anacapa, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa, San Nicolas, San Miguel).

In my opinion, it didn’t really work. I’m a first-year here, and everybody still calls it FT.

UCSB acquired FT in 2003 and renamed it Santa Catalina in hopes of turning around the reputation it has and wanting to keep a consistent name channel island theme since the other dorms are named after the channel islands. Here’s an article [Francisco Torres Residence Hall Changes Names - Daily Nexus](http://www.dailynexus.com/article.php?a=15368).

Honestly, FT isn’t as crazy as everyone is saying it is. They’re making it sound like the walls are covered in puke and littered with drunk people. Sure a lot of kids drink and go out to IV here, but so do alot of other kids in the on campus dorms. FT is by far the best choice here… huge rooms, your own bathrooms, fitness room, pool… its awesome. Parents: don’t be alarmed.

Oh and no one calls it the sex castles and the only time you hear the words Santa Catalina is when it is coming out of an RA’s mouth.

I’m in my FT room as I write this.
It’s not that scandalous!

I mean give me a break, there’s still RA’s on duty and you get written up for doing stupid ****.

FT has the best rooms if you ask me (bigger than on campus rooms, plus your own restroom), and it’s cleanliness is top notch.

and don’t bring up threads that are 1 year old

but their rooms are longer compared to on campus dorms which are shorter but wider (dimensions as seen when stepping into the room; width = from one wall to the other. length = from door to far wall)

How big are the closets?

^Good question!!!

it’s about 7 ft by 4 by 2? 2.5?

Can you take a picture…
Please…

4 wide? or 2.5 wide?

7ft tall x 4ft wide x 2.5ft depth but these are the closets in the on campus dorms. the closets in FT might be “shorter” as they incorporate a couple drawers under the closet space if i recall correctly. someone in FT please correct me if i’m wrong

No closets, just dressers:

you have a sink in your dorm?
