Franklin and Marshall Regular Decision Class of 2019

so I got wait-listed. but my stats aren’t that good. 24 ACT and 3.7 GPA. But I’m not that excited to go so i might deny my wait list.

@versionone‌ sorry to hear that but I’m in the same boat as you! I’m excited to attend Ithaca this fall, forget about F&M lol.

@Jmbakh‌ how did you not even get WL with a 1450?!?! That’s insane I’m VERY surprised.

@SeinfeldFan1‌ Now I’ve to choose between Earlham and DePauw.

@versionone‌ I’ve heard great things about DePauw.

Unfortunately their aid plan is not so great

I haven’t heard anything yet, that’s a problem right? Can someone link me to the portal?

@SeinfeldFan1 I didn’t schedule an interview in time. I don’t think my essays were bad if I remember right but my GPA should be better. I did take 10 AP classes and I feel extremely lucky with where I have been accepted. So far I have great aid packages from Holy Cross and Sewanee. Hoping to get a great aid package from Brandeis soon. Good luck at and or in Ithaca!

@Jmbakh‌ good luck to you too!

I got accepted!! Sorry I can’t follow the format since I’m on my phone!
I just wanted to post stats to help other ppl.
GPA: 4.2 w and 3.7 uw? I don’t know my unweighted gpa.
SAT: 1410 math and reading SAT.
32 act
Looking at my stats, I’m super surprised Jmbakh wasn’t accepted!!
Also, I am low income so maybe your income doesn’t play a negative role and/or they try to accept lots of low income students? I don’t really know since the college admissions process is so unpredictable.
I also visited and interviewed so that probably helped a lot.
Congrats to all those who got in and to those who didn’t, I completely emphasize with you because I had just gotten rejected from Wellesley when I saw the acceptance from FandM. You’ll all do amazingly in the colleges you do end up at!!

@bloodorange congrats! They definitely do accept low income students and hopefully give great aid as they claim to meet full need. That said they have a limited budget like many schools that meet full need and are need aware. This means that financial need won’t erase your chances but it can hurt you or at least make admissions more competive for you. Admissions are definitely unpredictable. I’ve been accepted to some schools I though I had little chance then flat rejected at schools with lower stats. Congrats to all accepted i hope it’s a good experience!

Thank you  I really think you’ll flourish wherever you end up!!! Also, the colleges that rejected you are going to miss out on an incredible student!

Wait listed. I accepted the offer right away because I fell in love with the school and it’s my first choice, but I’m disappointed, obviously. Congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to everyone wait listed. To those of you who were rejected, the school is missing out on a great student.

My mom works in admissions at a big university, and she was explaining to me the wait list process, if it makes any of you feel better. She was telling me that she is allowed to accept a certain number of students to satisfy the yield rate. Therefore, if the yield rate is 36% and the class capacity is around 200, then she can send acceptance letters to around 558 students. People in admissions are not always in agreement, so students on the wait list are not just “back-ups”. One admissions counselor could have been banking for you and fell short, or someone else’s stats were higher than yours and your position on the ladder of admitted students may have just kept getting bumped down. Yes, there are various reasons why a wait listed student is not an accepted student, and you could sit for days trying to come up with the reason but the point is sort of mute. At this point (since F & M doesn’t rank their wait list) you’re pretty much back where you started, but in a more highly selective pool. If you think admissions is tricky, wait list admissions are a formula that can’t really be cracked. The advice on the F & M website is good - follow it!

Also, if you haven’t checked the portal yet, it’s really important that you do. If you’re wait listed and don’t want to accept the offer, hurry up and let them know! The process won’t go as smoothly if people are trickling in at the end of April - like I said, their wait list could be over a thousand students, but if only 100 students accept the offer, that’s your competition.

Hope this helps!

@Jmbakh‌ Hi…this is totally weird of me but I have a question…I have been rejected at 3 schools and Waitlisted at 3 schools including F&M. 3 of these schools were “safeties” (1 rejected, 2 Waitlisted), 2 were targets (1 Waitlisted and 1 rejected) and the last was a reach (rejected). I havent been accepted to any schools yet and I have 7 schools left (3 reaches, 3 targets and 1 safety) and I’m quite concerned and anxious. You said that you were rejected from schools with lower stats and accepted to schools where you thought you had no chance. I know it’s personal but would you mind sharing the schools? Thanks in advance whether you decided to share or not!

Does it basically mean I was rejected if it says that my decision will be posted April First? I’m pretty confused why they haven’t made a decision for me yet…

Never mind, Just found out I was Waitlisted.

@bw1517 sure! I should probably private message to not derail the thread too much but I’m on mobile and don’t know how so oh well. I’ve been accepted to Sewanee and Denison with generous merit aid. Both have comparable GPA, SAT and class rank to schools I have been rejected from such as Dickinson and Franklin and Marshall. Sewanee should be more selective this year than previous years and Denison is definitely comparable in acceptance rate to many rejections and wait-lists I’ve received. I’ve also been accepted to Holy Cross and Brandeis. None of these schools have super low acceptance rates but looking over common data sets I was very lucky to get into Brandeis. Then when I compare that to St. Olaf and Trinity where I was wait listed it shows things are unpredictable. The St. Olaf waitlist was one of my first results so after that I though I had no chance at Brandeis.

Waitlisted. I had an overnight visit, an interview with an admissions counselor who seemed impressed with me, a 3.6 GPA and a 2010 SAT score.

Has anyone got their wait-list decisions?

I got off the waitlist!
I heard back from the director of admissions yesterday. As soon as I got my wait list letter I sent an email to the college representative from my state and I told him that F&M was my top choice and expressed my interest. I also did the same and sent emails to the director of admissions, the admissions office, and the department of my intended major! I hope that helps and good luck to all who are hoping for a response!
