Hi!!! I recently visited Franklin and Marshall and really loved it. I did the optional interview and felt it went well. The woman (interviewer) gave me an F&M drawstring bag after the interview and I noticed no one else had one who did an interview. Is this a hint that she wants me at F&M? She also brought me into a separate room after we finished talking and gave me a bunch of papers on programs I was interested in. During the interview she started talking to me about different majors and minors I could combine and she seemed excited - she mentioned those combinations to my parents too. Today I received a letter in the mail handwritten from her. She said my idea of studying Arabic in college was great and that she enjoyed finding out my interests and goals. As of now F&M is my top choice and Dickinson/Haverford are other interests. I just finished my junior year with a 3.98 GPA and I plan on not sending in SAT scores - F&M lets you send in writing samples instead. I’m a strong writer and got the achievement award in English and Spanish this year.
EC’s : cross country and track every year
Nordic ski team two years
-Spanish/German club
–NHS
-volunteering at Spanish speaking club at my local library
APs: Spanish and Lang&Comp (junior year)
Senior year schedule:
1st semester I’m going to this mountain school program that is unique to my Highschool, big focus on science/nature and hands on learning
2nd semester:
-Spanish modern cultures
-German 3 (I’m self studying German 2 this summer)
-AP Lit
-Cinematography
Not taking math senior year because of scheduling conflicts (would not have been able to take AP lit)
So what would you say my chances of getting into F&M are based on this info?
Hi, so I was in the same boat you were (4.0 GPA, top 10%, didn’t submit SAT’s, the EC’s/leadership, etc.) I interviewed with a woman, an admissions officer, who also gave me a bag and helped me find stuff about my major and sent me a letter. I was still deferred ED1, for a long time F&M was my first choice school…but I’ve come to the conclusion that F&M is really quite biased in their admissions process. There are several articles that I can link proving this, or at least in my opinion, prove this theory. I would be happy to send them to you, if you like. I commend you on your schedule, you seem like a phenomenal student! I wish you the best of luck, and my advice is not the end all, be all. But Franklin & Marshall is not always as they appear…
That’s just my two cents, you will be great wherever you get into! Best of luck, but as for a sign, I just don’t know what to tell you.
@506pir Hi! Thanks so much for sharing this with me. I would love to read those articles you mentioned!! And thank you My senior year schedule has actually changed quite a bit since my original post because the mountain school program is no longer providing transportation, and I live 40 min away from it. So I won’t be doing that anymore - but, this gives me the opportunity to explore other classes!
Where did you end up going? I’ve been thinking more and more about things to consider with the schools I’m looking at, and I’ve realized distance from home is important to me (at least I think it is now, I change my mind all the time!) - F&M is quite a drive from where I live and I’m not sure if I want to be so far away, but I’m definitely going to apply there. I’m growing increasingly interested in Union…
