I know that "you should join the frat or sorority is right for you", but i'd really like to know what everyone thought were the current sorority and frat tiers. If someone could post a small analysis/summary of what types of guys and girls 'usually' join, and how the frat or sorority is thought of on campus/tier, that would be great. Thanks.

No. That kind of thinking is pernicious and juvenile. Judge for yourself.

come on, no its not. people (and OFSL) want to pretend its not there and its not true but rankings are generally real and everyone knows it whether they want to admit it or not. PM me and I’ll tell you everything you want to know.

If it’s real and/or meaningful, then in what ways? Define for me what makes a “top house” better than another.

Most people only know a few people in other Greek chapters, when makes most samples unrepresentative and rankings based on what everyone else says they are, which self-perpetuates somewhat incorrect ones. That being said, there are still types of people that gravitate towards different chapters, and I dont see any reason why personalities are wrong as long as you dont try and say one is better or not (and I think the differences among the sororities are more pronounced than fraternities). pm me with any questions.

Calling me immature and childish are exactly the kind of comments I am not looking for. Do you think I can make a judgement before I even go there? I only wish to know an analysis of what type of guys/girls gravitate to which fraternities and sororities(OTHER PEOPLES’ OPINION). To say that the frats and sororities choose people of all types because they wish to be diverse and well rounded is just naive. They choose people that are similar to them, and in turn we end up with a fraternity for example which is predominantly jocks or etc. So before you go bashing me, because you don’t have an answer, or live in a “perfect world” where everyone is judged by their personality and not by where they fall in the social hierarchy, why don’t you just not answer and let people who are more knowledgeable answer for you.

Ok, hold it you little tyke.

I’m a senior in the greek system. I’m VERY knowledgeable about them.

I didn’t call YOU immature. I called the answers most people give immature, and the thought of “tiers”.

If you want stereotypes and personalities I will definitely give you answers. PM me for that.

I just hate, as suppasonic said, the ridiculous self perpetuating and ignorant biases. And I think thewayitis’ silence to my challenge is a bit of an indicator of why that is.

You might not like the answers and you might think them immature but they are based on peoples perception and perception is truth in the real world. Personally I think the whole Greek system is immature - it promotes a homogeneous college experience even more than college usually is! You’re creating a subset of mostly white middle to upper middle class 18-21 year olds into those that care about looks or fashion or drinking or drugs or status or sports or wealth or whatever happens to be the sorority or fraternity’s focus. All on the pretense of being a service organization.

Does that mean everyone in the Greek system is stereotypical, no, but that is how they are perceived. Like chooses like, you are judged by the company you keep. To not admit it’s faults is ridiculous.

no, i fell asleep. i just graduated last year AND i was a sorority rush chair for 3 years…I know many people in nearly all the frats and sororities and have worked with them on a personal and professional basis. What makes a house good? Do you really want me to say it? Good looking members with outgoing personalities and usually enough money to buy lots of alcohol (guys) and expensive clothes (girls). Sure there are exceptions, but generally that is what defines the top houses. These rankings are real and meaningful because they’re true. I’ve seen the retention rates…the top houses get back who they want and its THEIR decision who to cut. They are the houses all of the girls hear about and want to be in. Again, there are exceptions but this is the general trend and rule. I know arbiter you tend to toe the IFC/Panhell party line and give canned generic answers but you know that I’m right…the only people that don’t like the rankings are the ones at the bottom. I’m familiar with the house GPAs ok, I know what house you’re in…so where you’re coming from makes sense- for you.

thewayitis - you’re so refreshing!
