I will likely be going to the University of Pennsylvania and wherever I go, I will most definitely be pledging ASAP. My lifestyle is considered frat by basically everyone, and I was just wondering about everyone's hazing experiences-Penn or not-and how bad it is. Dont try to tell mr hazing is bad or Greek people are stupid (most billionaires were in frats). I've seen the movies, I'm an active on TFM, how is it really? If it's anything like I hear pledging is going to suck but once I'm a brother it's going to feel right. I understand that to give hazing you have to go through it yourself. What's it really going to be like?

TFM is not real life, nor is ‘being frat’.

First, it’s a fraternity, not a frat. Second, quit believing everything you read on the internet. Finally, not every fraternity experience is the same. Not every fraternity experience is the same across campuses, across chapters, or across nationals of a given fraternity.

This post just frustrates me.

Geez sensitive much? I guess some of us are meant to be GDI’s

I’m not a GDI, but thanks for thinking so.

You’re not going to get an answer about pledging because it varies amongst individual chapters so much. Some chapters have a very strict nationals-defined policy that they follow, others not so much. Some chapters may make you be a sober driver, work the door at parties, or be available for brothers during certain hours. Others may not. It simply varies far too much. All of the fraternities at my school did extremely different things and were across a very wide spectrum. Some of the ‘frattiest’ (your words, not mine) fraternities had the least stringent pledgeship. Some of the ‘lowest tier’ had the hardest pledgeships.

Hahahaha try harder dude. You’re not in college yet and while TFM is funny and does ring true to fraternity life on some fronts, it’s still a parody and a comedy site first and foremost. It’s not like the movies, and nobody cares how much you comment on TFM. To answer your question, hazing depends on what house you join. Everyone does it differently. Does it exist? All over the place. Can anyone tell you what you’re pledging will be like? No. And the fact that you are actually coming on here and asking how bad hazing really is makes you seem like a huge py just so you know. Also tough for you to call someone a GDI when that’s exactly what you are right now. You’re a junior in fing high school, you’re not “frat” by any measure and you haven’t even applied to Penn or any other schools yet. Just settle down.

Didn’t say I wasn’t a GDI at the moment, just that by the way she was replying to me it made her sound like one. 75-52 Spartans

No, I was implying that you’re a stupid freshman who hasn’t yet learned that fraternity life isn’t all about what you see in the movies. Show some respect

Fraternity not frat. No one will give you a bid if you say that.

Oh you’re a state fan? Sorry about that.

Op you need a reality check. Seriously, treat people with some respect and don’t act so conceited.

guys, give soccergirl a break…superseniors are always pretty sensitive

You know the expression “peaked in high school”? I think the op is “peaked in college.”

Super senior? Definitely not. I did ugrad and grad in 5 years at the same school–hence why I have 2 graduation dates. Sorry for being Greek and getting a great education!

Sigh. Go away. We (Spartans) don’t want to be associated with you.

@#9, doubtful. He is just a ■■■■■ trying to get a rise. Almost guarantee that if you were “white and green” he woulda maid a pro-U of M comment ;)

Clearly a ■■■■■.

Look, I don’t like frats either but if you come on here trying to embody all of the stereotypes of a frat boy, you clearly are a ■■■■■.

Correction: orange and green.

;)

Almost every fraternity hazes to some degree, but it’s a huge range. Some activities that are technically considered hazing are totally harmless and a lot of fun. Other activities most certainly would qualify as torture.

During rush, and especially closed rush, you might be able to get a feel for how much hazing is to come based on rush activities (ie how much alcohol there is) but you’ll never really know.

Different frats have different reps as far as hazing goes, but no one really knows what frats specifically do to their pledges because only brothers go through it and these brothers are not allowed to talk about it.

That being said, and as I alluded to above, most people involved in Greek life at Penn do have some idea as to which frats haze the most, so you should be able to get a feel for it.

Overall, and as someone who pledged a fraternity at Penn last semester, the hazing is pretty rough.

this dude watches so many movies. let me tell you something, go and start ****ing every girl you talk to during orientation. like American pie. :D

“Most billionaires were in frats”…Isn’t that exactly why they’re considered stupid by most common, sane people?

Most people think they’re stupid because of the negative stereotypes associated with them. I’ve never heard anyone cite the overrepresentation of greeks in fortune 500 CEOs as a negative.
