Fraternity Info?

I’m a senior in high school right now and I recently got accepted to bama. I just finished applying to the honors college and, assuming I’m accepted, there is a good chance I will be attending the university next year. I know there have been a fair number of topics regarding the sorority rush process, although I am having a little bit of difficulty finding info on the frosh fraternity rush process. I know there are a lot of rush events in the spring and summer before school, but I don’t know what the dates for these are or what actually happens at these events. Are there any current brothers, alumni or parents of students that could give me some enlightenment? Thanks in advance.

You should join the Alabama class of 2014 on Facebook. That is one way for frats to learn about you and contact you.

Also…Greek recruitment… [Greek Life](http://www.greeklife.ua.edu/)

March 27 - Greek Preview Weekend

BTW…if you have the stats (see below), you’ll be admitted to the Honors College. Which honors programs did you apply for (only 2 are competitive, the other 2 admit by stats)

Incoming students with a 28 ACT or 1250 SAT will be automatically accepted to the Honors College upon submission of their [honors college] applications. Students will be notified of their acceptance via mail.

If you go to Pan-Hellenic weekend (or whatever they’re calling it now) or pay to get information sent to you then you’ll have all the information you need. Last year’s was in April I think.

Mom, I applied to the university honors and international honors schools. I got a 1350, so I should get in but I didn’t want to sound pretentious. Unfortunately I don’t have the grades in order to be competetive for either of the highly selective ones. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the facebook group!

Also, I live in California, so it’s important that I know what time of the year the Greek events are occuring (in case anyone was
wondering)

You will get into UHP and IHP, it’s an automatic admit. Greek events will happen in April or May (preview is in March though), basically sometime before you’re out of school. I don’t know of any guys in UA frats on CC, so basically do all the things the other posters have linked. Once you have found some that you’re interested in, check to see if they have a facebook group or facebook the rush chair. I think most of the frats would be excited to have a pledge/brother from CA.

Are you coming to greek preview mar 27

Seatide, thanks for the info, I’ll start looking around.

Mom, it’s a lil early for me to know if Alabama is for sure where I’ll be going, but if I don’t get into the naval academy prep school there’s a very strong chance bama will be my first choice. If that becomes the case, then I’ll definitely try to attend Greek preview.

So if we are thinking of joining a fraternity, we should come in the spring of our senior year? Is UA a school where rush is pretty much done when you come into school?

This isn’t much help for California, but for anyone in one of the listed areas, it may be beneficial. The info is from a UA Greek newsletter that DS received today via email.

"The Greek Life Road Show – Coming to a City Near You!

The Office of Greek Affairs is partnering with the University’s Office of Admissions to take the Greek Life show on the road. In the next year, students and staff representing Greek Life at the University of Alabama will be making a number of appearances at regional recruiting events. We use these opportunities to meet with interested students and parents and to spread the good news about Greek Life at the Capstone. With increasing interest among out-of-state students in Greek Life, we have found that the earlier we can meet these students and get them the information they need, the more likely they are to be successful in navigating the recruitment/intake process. We have also found that our Greek community is a powerful draw in recruiting potential students to the University.

So look for us coming to a city near you:

January 25, 2010 – Houston, TX
January 27, 2010 – Dallas, TX
January 28, 2010 – Ft. Worth, TX
February 13, 2010 – Atlanta, GA (Fraternities)
February 22, 2010 – Ft. Lauderdale, FL
February 23, 2010 – Orlando, FL
February 25, 2010 – Jacksonville, FL
March 20, 2010 – Atlanta, GA (Sororities)

For more information on these receptions, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or the Local Alumni Chapter in your area."

Too bad I don’t live in one of those states.

Haha, yeah it would probably be just as worthwhile to come to Tuscaloosa than any of those other places for the Greek Preview deal. I appreciate the thought though.

THQ, there is a Northern California Alumni Chapter you might contact at [Northern California UA Alumni Chapter](http://www.norcalbama.com/) . They should have somebody who was in a UA frat who would be willing to talk with you.

TheHairyQuail…

Are you planning on visiting UA?

SEA, thanks for the info, I live just outside Oakland so the Nor Cal chapter information is invaluable.

Mom, I should be visiting in early January. I have a huge baseball showcase in Florida for all the Senior uncommited players around the country and I’m going to be taking off an extra couple days of school to visit Alabama and Ole Miss before going to the tournament.

THQ…If you’re going to visit in January, why aren’t you coming for Capstone Scholars Day which is held the weekend of MLK’s Bday? It’s a big Bama event for honors students.

Mom, I’ll look into it, hopefully the dates don’t conflict and I could possibly make it out.
