Fraternity issues

While moving in I made friends with a few older kids, all of who happened to be in the same frat, I am interested in the group but one of the brothers let me know that my school doesn't recognize the frat. My question is what are reasons for schools not recognizing frats?

New frat, previous behavioral problem(s), administrative issues, logistical screwups come to mind

Probably behavior problems. Is it an ethnic frat? They are usually the ones getting in trouble (at least at my school) for hazing and what not.

ummmm

just curious…

what do you mean by ethnic?

like black interest fraternities, asian interest fraternities, etc. From what I have seen, those haze the hardest.

if they are associted with a race, its usually bad haze
i forget where i heard that but yeah…

did they say the school doesn’t recognize THEM or doesn’t recognize ANY fraternities?

If it’s only them that the school doesn’t recognize, ask them why. If the answer doesn’t sound legit, ask around (your school’s IFC is a good start), or go to [GreekChat.com Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.greekchat.com) and ask there, or call the National Office of the fraternity and ask why.

Anything other than behavioral problems (and if so, find out if those kids are still in the chapter) and I wouldn’t be too concerned.

And yes, there is a reputation that the Divine Nine (more formally known as NPHC) groups haze hard.

If you have more questions about greek life, BigRedMed and I are probably the best people to talk to on this forum, but I would recommend posting on greekchat.

i talked to some other kids last night and its apparently because they throw shady parties where “even the guys get rufied”
