fraternity life

Can you tell me about the fraternity life at Cornell? Does anyone know anything about fugi or alpha delt? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages to joining one?

i'm gonna add a question or two to that list... :)

Are frats/sororities a huge part of campus life? If you're not really into that type of stuff, will that be detrimental to your social life? (i mean, i know there's a ton of other stuff to do, but still...)

Yes, the greek scene is very big. It's probably the main social outlet for the vast majority of campus. Approximately 1/3 of men pledge, i dont know about the numbers for women.

Fiji is located up on McGraw place, next to SAE and Alpha Delt. It's pretty much known as a real s---hole, which it more or less is. I dont know too many of the brothers there, but the stereotype is that they are sketchy slackers. They know how to throw a good party though, and isnt that what really matters in the end?

Alpha Delta is in the same vicinity. They have an amazing house and a great location. The brothers are in general very wealthy. They are stereotyped as cokeheads; its generally rumored that they allot a large portion of their social budget solely for purchasing blow. In the past they've gotten in trouble for using money from their "charity events" to buy coke. They don't really throw that many open parties, and I don't know anyone in the house, so I cant say much more outside of what i've heard through the general stereotype/rumor mill.

But even though it's big, there are still plenty plenty plenty of people (out of 12000, see?) who aren't into the frat scene, not to mention not brothers. so you will not have no friends if you don't like frats.

For 1, you might turn out to like frats, many people who thought they would hate it enjoy it.
For 2, if you don't like it, there will be plenty of other people like you who don't like it, and you can hang out together. Fear not.

im planning on transfering to cornell next fall...what are some frats with a good rep? definitely not with a cokehead, rep.
