Hello all, I am trying to transfer into Gtown for many reasons.
My problem is that I am about to join a Fraternity at my school and i know Gtown does not have traditional social fraternities. Due to the tough pledging season, i expect to see my grades drop slightly. This hopefully will not be a problem for my application because my last semester gpa was a 3.9. Im just wondering how the office of admissions at GTown would view a fraternity member. Would they think negatively of me and hurt my chances because Gtown does not like frats, or would they see is as me being active in my school and therefor help my chances for admissions. Thanks for any responses.

I thought you were going to ask how fraternity pledges transfer...and I was going to tell you that Georgetown doesn't have a Greek system. I'm interested in this too. I mean I'm active in a social fraternity, but I'm also active in a business fraternity in which I have a leadership role. I don't think it really matter that much personally, but may be other people have different opinions.

If you let your grades drop because you're in a fraternity, that will count negatively against you. However just being in a fraternity won't hurt or help you. Since they don't have an official Greek system, I bet they just disregard it, like the writing portion of the SAT. Unless there is a correlation between lowered GPA and involvement in the frat.

I agree with shapeofhome. I know a handful of transfers that were in frats/sororities, and they didn't have any problems getting in. Just don't let your grades drop during pledging, because that would definitely hurt you.

In terms of frats, the only social frat we have is SigEp (not recognized by Georgetown). But there is also AEPi (Jewish social frat), DPE (foreign service frat), IND?(I think? an Indian frat), APO (co-ed service frat), and a business frat that I can't remember the letters of. There are also a bunch of city-wide black frats.

was it AKPsi?

There is Alpha Kappa Psi and the b-frat (can't remember their letters)

B-frat was kicked off campus ages ago and AKPsi is sponsored by the MSB Dean's Office

Alpha Kappa Psi is a business fraternity. Is there one specific to Georgetown? There used to be a Delta Sigma Pi, but it was kicked off apparently and AKPsi replaced it.
