So I'm coming to Tallahassee totally alone and am looking to join a fraternity to make friends and well start this new life. What can I expect, what are some good fraternities and what are the chances that I'll get a bid? I'm new to all of this so assume I know nothing. Thanks guys =)

Fraternities aren’t the only way to make new friends on campus, although very good for those who find a fraternity that suits them.

FSU has a multitude of different fraternities, each with several different types of people. Overall, Rush week will be your chance to meet the brothers of each of these fraternities, and basically man flirt. You will be learning all about the different histories of each fraternity and get a first hand glimpse at many of the fraternity houses.

We really can’t say your chances of whether or not you will get a bid, because it boils down to the fraternity you want to join. If you get a good foot into the fraternity you are bidding on, and a vast majority of the brothers like you and would like you to join their organization, then you will get a bid.

Here is the FSU Greek Life site, [Office of Greek Life at The Florida State University](<a href=“Fraternity and Sorority Life”>http://greeklife.fsu.edu/).

If you are looking for a good party frats, the best from campus experience :

PKA (Pike), DTD (Delta Tau Delta), TKE (Tau Kappa Epsilon), Lambda Chi Alpha, Chi Phi.

Although if you are a really lucky man, you can find yourself a spot in Delta Delta Delta.

^ I was confused for a second, but I get it. lol

Yes Dnerd i apologize for my crappy grammar, i am a science major after all :D

Ooops oh no wait the DDD thing yeah hehehe

OP,

Just go to the different houses and meet the guys from the different organizations.

Best fraternities on campus are: Phi Sig, Sigma Chi, DTD, and Pike. That was in no particular order.

The rest aren’t considered to be as good, but you have to see what you like. There’s also Kappa Sig, Phi Delt, Lamda Chi, and many more that are all very good organizations.

So what is the average Cost per Fraternities and Sororities…per semester

One billion dollars.

Basically UNCFAN, costs are sort of bleh.
Lets say, Pike for instance im almost 100% sure is close to 800 or so a semester.
Now, that may not seem like much considering some sororities are over 1k.
Then, factor in all the things you do in a fraternity. That means, clothing (suits and costumes etc for parties and stuff). Then factor in going out with your frat (club covers/bars etc). Factor in the occasional taxi ride. Factor in the roofelin surcharge. (JK)

Well over 1k for semester IMO with a +/- $200 depending on frat.

The way i figured it, the cost to be a member of a sorority at FSU could easily exceed $4000/semester if you figure dues are maybe $2000/semester and you’d need maybe another $2000/semester to keep up with the other girls paying for clothes and partying together, etc. Joining a sorority or fraternity isn’t in everyone’s budget just like a lot of other things in life. That’s just the way it is.

Thanks for the info…I guess my kid will not be looking at the Billion dollar one…that was funny…but if ya poor then might as well be a billion… We will discuss this some…since 99% of the cost of things usually end up coming out of my wallet…but with the economy like it is and may be for a while…then my kid could use the network down the road to assist with a Job.

^Future networking with the past Greek affiliation could maybe help a little with job seeking down the road.

Not to get off course too much on this Greek thread, but as far as future jobs, an FSU resource that I am definitely going to check out as soon as I get to FSU next week is the FSU Career Center. FSU talked up the Career Center at freshmen orientation big time, and also in e-bulletins I have received from FSU–the Career Center has been mentioned several times. I guess at FSU, with today’s tough job market, the placement of graduates into jobs is a top priority with FSU, hence FSU pushing the Career Center so much. It was stressed that the center is not just for seniors getting ready to seek jobs, but the center is also recommended to even brand new freshmen. For example, students may do 2 mock job interviews (free of charge) at the center each semester–even new freshmen. The center also offers career advising and guidance with picking a major at FSU. I’m going to check the center out because I want every advantage I can get when I finish school and I’m looking for a job. BTW, I lucked out and lined up a part time job already on campus working in a clinic while attending FSU full time beginning this fall semester. I got the job the old fashioned way–phoning until I got a job.

SID…your post makes no sense, and umm are you sure about some of the fraternities you listed as the best party fraternities?? have you even been to FSU, your listed three fraternities which if you polled most greek members would highly disagree about them being top partying fraternities…GDI

“PKA (Pike), DTD (Delta Tau Delta), TKE (Tau Kappa Epsilon), Lambda Chi Alpha, Chi Phi.”

That fits, your 1st, then 2nd, then 5th, then 2nd, then 4th Tiers, so i am a tad interested how you could possibly ask me HAVE YOU EVER EVEN BEEN TO FSU?
I mean’t to say SOME OF THE BEST in that original post. I wasn’t aware that my statement was written in stone.

I’m still trying to figure out how my post didn’t make sense. I neglected to mention the main people that join fraternities are those unable to make friends without paying mass amounts of money?

Oooooppppppssssssss

Oh and i know it may be a hard thing to understand but the Delta Delta Delta thing was a joke

Cheers to a new fall where you guys train future date rapists!!! Jk, but no really

P.S. I’m a sophomore. : )

So yea you guys helped a lot with frats to check out can you categorize those as generally what type of people join which?

“Cheers to a new fall where you guys train future date rapists!!! Jk, but no really”

-Way to show your immaturity and proves that you probably never had a chance to join one…oops sorry you probably joined the christian fraternity or the literary society, they take anyone…dont talk about things you know nothing about!

Why would you automatically assume i would join a Christian fraternity… I could be a muslim for all you know. Ignorant spoiled fool you are indeed. Christianity isn’t the only religion on campus.

Oh and in regards to things you know nothing about, ive had my fair share of Pike boy HERE DRINK THIS sitings. A personal friend of mine dealt with a LOVELY pike boy who just couldn’t understand the word no.

But then again, it must be hard making friends without paying for them? Huh Fratstar?

To be honest, I don’t find frats to be helpful. I mainly find them as another excuse to drink and party, but that probably applies to main stream fraternities. Of course, they are some greeks mainly about community service, but other than that, meh.

As far as “networking”, I rather build my own personal network, with people I know well, rather than using a network with people I don’t even know to help me with future assistance.

SID im done talking to you, your obviously another GDI craving attention by spewing out a bunch of misconceptions, rumors and stereotypes…if you actually hung out around greek life you would notice we’re just regular guys…but your too busy being jealous.

Good, your responses have been quite mundane. Thanks for the entertainment though. I’m sure ill pass by you at Chubby’s one night.

While you slip something in a Delta Gamma’s Vodka Tonic.

Hehe. :)
