Whats the fraternity scene at Berkeley?
Its more fun and affordable to live with a fraternity/sorority, but how much space is there?
When do recruitments take place? Do you have to join in the freshman year or can one join later?

It's best to join freshman year, it's really big here actually. For living costs it's great, and the guys get really close, but often are socialized into thinking they are better than the other Cal nerds because they are now Greeks, and forget deep inside they will always be geeky, until I remind them.

how profound.
But you can still live in the residential halls for the first year right?
and once ur fully initiated, then you can move into the frat house the next year.

rushing takes places during the first weeks of each semester

you dont have to be a freshman

nobody will force you to live in the house once you become a brother

All the houses are great. You just have to pick carefully and on the basis of what you think is best for you. I won't plug or bash on any fraternity. There is a house for everyone here (and I mean ANYONE, there are nerd frats, average dude frats, prep frats, jock frats, cool frats, weird frats, conservative, liberal, anything you can imagine with 35 frats around) and its definitely something you should at least try out. And don't join a house because its got a "good rep", join one that makes you feel welcome and happy.
