I know there have been numerous threads on the fraternities at UVa.
I'm an OOS student from New England, however, so I was wondering about the frats that were more friendlier to Northerners (nothing against Southerners or anything).

You’re not going to get that info on here and honestly it doesn’t matter. Just go into rush with an open mind and try to meet as many of the brothers as you can, if they like you, it doesn’t matter where you’re from. Keep in mind, you’ll have all of first semester to find out about frats, go to parties, and meet the brothers.

You’ll be fine, the process runs itself and works pretty well. You’ll sort out where you want to look over fall semester and decide pretty quickly during rush.

I’m from Boston and my brother is at UVa - he is in a frat. He did say that some frats are more “southern” than others. Mostly a legacy thing and it being in the south and all. Better put he would say those frats are generation after generation of UVa students, and since it is a state school, Virginia residents - therefore southern. Still, sounds like he had plenty to choose from and very much enjoys being part of one now. The only southern influence I have seen on my brother is that he now wears white shorts, was more of a plaid shorts guy before he left. Buy a pair before you go. Have a blast, it’s a great school.
