To be fair, for the second article my sense is that it was indeed a joke. I seem to recall that some African Americans on the football team joined it, though I’m not sure about that.

For the first article, if the allegations turn out to be true then I hope the perpetrators are fully punished.

squadus: There was an alleged sexual assault. The facts haven’t sorted themselves out yet. It’s highly unlikely, but maybe she just got too drunk and took her own clothes off. Point is, we don’t know until the investigation runs its course.

And the manly thing to have happened if she got too drunk and took her clothes off would be to do what? Find her a raincoat, a big towel or something to drape herself with and call for a campus escort to get her back to her living quarters. According to news reports so far, that didn’t happen.

If she was assaulted, I hope they find the miscreants and throw the book at them. Someone has to start taking responsibility when these drunken parties get out of hand, sheesh.

Seriously, even if she was drunk and took off her clothes while intoxicated she should be held responsible. Someone has to take responsibility for things like this and I hope the bottom line of this event is sorted out soon and that appropriate actions are taken on the culprits.

FindaPlace: You’re right. But the offense of not escorting a drunk girl home, while unfortunate, does not rise to the level of rape. Point is, the facts haven’t sorted themselves out yet.

sfgiants: Agreed, let the facts come out with no sugarcoating. What happened to those guys a few years back at Duke was horrendous.

However, squadus … “Seriously, even if she was drunk and took off her clothes while intoxicated she should be held responsible.” She should? You’d never want me on your jury.

You don’t believe it’s her fault that (hypothetically, we don’t know what happened) she got drunk and because she was drunk, took her clothes off? o_O It sure wouldn’t be the frat or anyone else’s fault.

It could well have been her own doing that she got drunk and ended up naked. However, for anyone to take advantage of her in that position, if indeed that did occur, is THAT person’s responsibility. It’s called self control.

WOW guys you all must have failed freshman year english class.
The fact that she woke up later unclothed does not mean that she was wandering around naked, its implying that she was raped that way they dont have to say it straight up.

Also I do sympathize with the second one. Those groups are 99.9% political satire.

But I am not going to make an opinion on either case until more details come out. I really hope this isnt real and I also hope if it isnt real it doesnt get the chance to do to USC’s reputation what the lacrose team fiasco did to duke’s reputation

I hope it doesn’t damage USC’s rep either, since my H is on faculty there and my S is planning on applying there (and other places) next year.

I guess the combo of two incidents in one week, this one and the ill conceived haz mat prank by the honor society group, has put me on edge. It’s true, with the size of enrollment at USC it’s like a small city but I still have high expectations and USC (meaning its admins, faculty and students) have worked hard over the last two decades to burnish its reputation so I hate to see this kind of stuff happening.

Lol, Listenkid I think you may have failed the english class =P
Notice I said “hypothetically”. haha

But wow this really sucks for both the girl and the university. I hope the girl is ok and that the USC reputation isn’t tarnished one bit at all by this.

im thinking that the ‘medical treatment’ that she got should have shown if anything had happened… like if she was raped, there would be either DNA marks(i think) or a condom would have left some sort of mark… also… i mean, waking up with less clothes isnt exactly uncommon, and now i cant say for sure, but from experience, when people say 2-3 drinks, they dont mean 2-3 drinks… its usually more… but yea, cant be sure…

i feel really sorry for her, it must suck… and i hope USCs rep isnt messed up too much… also i hope it turns out nothing really happened…

“The student also told Wheeler that the two friends she had gone to the mixer with had left, and she did not see any other girls in the house when she woke up.”

“She said she had woken up on a couch in the hallway wearing her shorts but not her underwear and she was rather confused about that, Wheeler said.”

Why do I have a feeling she just drank too much, and passed out on the couch outside. As a sick/cruel joke, her friends took off her underwear, and left her there because they were drunk also. In the end, even if her friends didn’t do that, she ended up waking up alone… what the heck were here friends thinking? Don’t get me wrong, if someone did sexually assault her, they deserve time behind bars, but there are so many open ended results that can occur. An unidentifiable “drug”, waking up with no memory, her friends were not there… I hope the facts come out straight. I don’t want anyone wrongfully accused of something as serious as rape just because some chick wanted to spite a hook up she had, or hated the guy. But on the opposite spectrum, if they identify she was drugged, and indeed was raped, those guys deserve time behind bars.
