Hey guys. I was wondering if any of you could give me some insight on the specific frats at WashU. Are there certain stereotypes for them? I found this similar thread but it's pretty outdated (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/286559-frats-washu.html) so I'm not sure if it's still accurate. I'm personally not someone who makes judgements based on perceived stereotypes but I was just curious.

I really hate these threads. This happened years ago with the forum collegeacb (a non-WashU website that covered many Greek organizations in universities across the country) which ended up being a forum in which Greeks (and non-Greeks!) trash-talked other Greek organizations and harshly targeted specific people (I’m really glad this site was taken down)

If you do ever come to WashU and visit the fraternities, you will find each fraternity has a diversity of men with their members having widely differing personalities and interests (even within fraternities!) It’s sad how many people think you can define a group of 50-60 people (hundreds-thousands if you think about all of the alumni of a chapter) with just a few words. For some reason, there are many who believe that it is OK to stereotype Greek organizations and those in it. A prominent example of the dangers of stereotyping the Greek community were seen in the false sexual assault allegations at Duke University several years ago. Unfortunately, this attitude hasn’t changed in the general population. I implore everyone on this thread to not perpetuate these stereotypes.

What I’m saying is come to “Rock the Row” (or “Meet the Greeks” - whatever they’re calling it nowadays) in early September and definitely rush (in the spring) if you’re an incoming freshman and decide for yourself if you find a group of guys you wouldn’t mind calling brothers. (You probably won’t find a chapter in which you are excited about EVERY brother in the house but if you do find a house that is worth your time, you’ll probably think the brothers that you have bonded with are worth that investment despite the others)
