Frats?

Hey i was wondering what the greek life was like at davis, and if its worth it to try to join a frat? Also, what kind of hazing/initiation do guys have to do? And what happens during rush?

I’m trying to rush too, but i heard they got rid of hazing unless they are just saying that. For rush it just depends on which frat. I think its like a week long meet and greet kind of thing.

This should help for the different types of frats.

Greek life here at Davis is alright. During rush, the frat hosts activities w/ fun, games, food, drinks, hot sorority chicks, etc. for potential members to have a chance to check out the frat and meet the bros. They usually try to act all chill and welcoming to get people to interview/pledge (I heard that they need a certain amount of people to pledge each quarter which is why some of them seem pretty desperate). I heard some people got hospitalized from the hazing/initiation they had to go through.

what’s hazing/initiation like?

yeah not sure if it was my freshman year or sophomore year but some freshman in SAE fell and hit his head on something when they were all drunk and they had to call an ambulance and move out of the house (at least temporarily).
hazing and initiation is generally a lot of drinking and a lot of confusion and stress and maybe even some of the stuff they have in the movies. i haven’t been told TOO much though. oh and my roommate freshman year is in one of the major frats at davis and 2/3 of my housemates this past year were in frats as well, one biggish, one newer.
oh and regarding

every quarter, fraternity members have to pay usually around $400 in dues, so every new pledge is like $1200 a year to go towards frat activities. i think for sororities it’s quite a bit more. so attracting new members is generally good for a greek organization period

Going into pledge week do you have to know what frat you are wanting to join, or can you “brows” and check out a few different ones?

its not pledge week, its rush week so you go around to the different frats and see who you fit in with best. its usually an entire quarter of being a pledge at a lot of frats, but a couple frats don’t even have pledging/hazing and still do all the crazy stuff
