Hey guys im angry...I got a 84 in gym....Im one of the only to actually do stuff, and I missed dress (right shorts & shirt together) 3 days outta 45....Im so angry because I wanted all 90s this marking period lol :P
BTW-My gym teacher gave homework...

that sucks that happened to me last year, though I wasnt the only one who actually did all the stuff. For example oone of my class mates did nothing when we played volleyball, I on the other hand love volley ball so I played and was active. But when ity came to soccer I suck, and my classmate is awesome....and the teacher loves soccer and hates volley ball...and what a surprise I got a 78 for his class while my friend got a 95....

How on earth do they grade you in Gym? The very concept seems ridiculous. I took gym, but it was more a pass fail thing based on if you went to class enough days.

Colleges really don't care about PE if it makes you feel any better.

How do you get homework in GYM?? just out of curiosity.. i can't think of WHY they would give out homework.

we have gym tests, but no homework for gym in high school. in middle school, we got gym projects. they were portfolios with essays.

yeah, that sounds stupid lol, i was in gym last year. we didn't get gym tests. i would have most likely failed lol. my brother had to do some kind of paperwork tests in middle school too

Sorry, getting an 84 in PE means that you don't have what it takes to succeed in life. It's best to cut your losses now and secure a job at a McDonald's near you.

I used to receive gym homework - basically filling out worksheets on the human body...

That really sucks.... don't worry though. At some schools, they readjust your GPA, omitting GYM courses and other fluffy work.

(For instance, on the UCapp, you only list academic subjects.)

lol Im not worried about the grade really....its just the fact that im active and i got a crappy ass grade.....screw da GPA its da principle of the matter.....;)
I just figured i might as well give you guys something to read :)

sucks man. gym sounds really intense at your school.

At my Ds school the girls coach is tough, to prove something, the girls have a 4 page midterm and a longer final, with project, etc

The boys- 1 page mutiple choice tests and one project

I don't mind them learning about health issues specific to their gender, I just wish the boys had to do as much work as the girls

The girls run laps each class, the boys, nope

But, in the long run the girls will be better off, the boys, well, they can learn about testicular cancer or heart disease on their own

Citygirlsmom, no use complaining. I would rather have a longer exam because time not spent on the exam is time spent sitting there staring at the clock bored as hell. I would rather keep busy with a longer exam. I'm sure the boys have to do more push-ups or sit-ups etc.

My school is also on a pass/fail basis. My gym teacher is my football coach so I just skip gym and still pass :p

I'm so glad I'm finished with gym, haha. It was like, every two days you missed (if you didn't have proper clothes, that counted as one) your letter grade went down and you had to come in at lunch or a study hall to make up the missed classes. I missed so much because I was sick that my p.e. teacher just told me to do physical activity at home, have my mom sign it and give it to her...thank goodness we have no homework though...

The boys really do not do more than the girls- the girls do as much and more

And as I said, the papers, etc are good, the girls learn about PMS, breast cancer, menopause (better to understand mommy), and other conditions that can affect them, also learned about nutrition, diet, anorexia, and conditions that speciafically affect males

The boys don't get nearly as much, I just wish it was even so the boys would learn more

I'm so lucky... when I was in grade 10 (the only year gym is mandatory in hs), I got put in "nerd gym" which was gym/health with all the other IB kids! So the marking standards weren't too high. The only thing I really suck at is basketball, but compared to all the really nerdy kids, I did really well. It was the only year I actually got above a 90 in gym. Granted, we played ping-pong for three weeks and did dance for about 2. Haha. I was disappointed that we didn't get to play field hockey like the other kids though... I'm on the school team.

If you're in regular gym at my school and you miss a class, you have to make it up or they take marks off your final grade. I.e. you need to work out in our fitness centre one morning or afternoon. Other than that, they are pretty good about marking for participation/effort rather than natural athletic ability, which not everybody has. We do, however, have a course called "Sports Performance" and it is basically a period for all the serious athletes to train during school and they get credit for it. Last year we had a girl on the Canadian National Women's Field Hockey Team. Intense!

PE is usually a state required class, i don't think colleges care about how fast you can run or how good you did playing Floor hockey, so don't worry about it.

Jesus freakin' CHRIST I hate gym. We're currently doing folk dancing. I'm not kidding. I have no idea what they grade us on, exactly - I've ranged from 90-100 for doing the exact same thing each semester - and we usually just sit around for the first 30-45 minutes (though our backbacks are locked up, so we can't do homework, we just...sit). What's really not fun is that I'm currently taking an extra semester due to schedule issues.
Apologies for the kvetching.

Four semesters of gym are required here, and similar grading policies are enacted as described in cowgirlatheart's post. However, we get to do six different sports per semester, where there are only games, so PE is actually more fun than some of the others described here. There are no finals, no homework; just time playing the game. Health class is separate and can be taken online or in-school; one has to complete the assignments by the end of their senior year in order to graduate. The online class-which has all of twenty lessons-is quite easy and can be completed in less than a fortnight. It has no final and is recorded on the transcript as a pass, which means it has no bearing in one's GPA. PE is given 1/4 of a credit per semester, so an A=1, B=.75, C=.5, D=.25 and F=0 in the GPA.
