So I had to drop a class this semester because the professor was pretty crazy and not clear (not just me who felt this way, a lot of people did) and I was afraid that the final grade i would get would hurt my gpa (i did not even need the class, it was just taking up space). Thankfully there is no W on my transcript but I am scared that the universities that I am trying to transfer to will look down on this. I should say that the normal course load at my school is 4 courses 2 of my remaining classes are for my major and the third is my language. I am planning on applying to schools like georgetown and columbia for Poli Sci and religious studies. I was wondering if I should overload my classes next semester to make up for this semester. The reason I am hesitant and looking for help is that one of the classes is Constitutional Law (notoriously hard at my current school). I feel like that class plus four others (one of them being my language) will be a lot of work and could work against me. I just don't really know what to do because I don't know how colleges will look at my current semester. I really need other peoples opinions on this one please! (current gpa 3.93)

anyone?

bump

If there’s no W on your transcript, then how is this course indicated on your transcript?

Its as if the course never existed, much like how students drop classes in the beginning of the semester. My school just had a very late drop date. So the schools that I am applying to will only see the three courses that I am taking instead of the four that I was taking. I am completely comfortable explaining in the additional comments section of the applications why I only took three classes (the prof of the fourth class was an adjunct and did not really care about us, thus making it hard to learn the material. Plus, I had some family issues in the middle of the semester that forced me to split time between home and school.)

If it doesn’t appear on your transcript then there is nothing to explain. As you said, it’s as if the course never existed.

but wouldn’t it look odd that I took 3 classes instead of the usual 4?

No because, summer session some people take one to two courses… So you will be fine

Not really. There is no minimum required number of courses per semester to qualify for transfer. Some students take only one or two classes per semester due to other obligations. You’ll be just fine. There’s no explanation even required.
