Freaking out, please respond?

So basically I’m trying to transfer out of my top-10 LAC school to my state flagship. I had a very bad first semester and ended up with a gpa of 2.43. This semester I’ve done much, much better and I don’t know how those grades will be sent to the state school (mid-year report… but how do I do this?) I’m incredibly ignorant about the transfer process.

My high school record was really good, I finished at the top of my class, and I had pretty good SATs. My transfer recs are amazing. I am full pay. The reason I am transferring is because someone in my family is dying and I want to be there, and also the school has a better program for what I want (not engineering or anything really competitive at that school, but something in humanities)

Should I give up because my GPA is horribly low or is there at least a glimmer of a chance for me?

Pick up the phone. Call the admissions office. Ask them what they need from you.

Meet with your advisor at your current LAC, and get a leave of absence set up for next year. That way you can be home next fall no matter whether you get into the state U just yet or not.
