Free Chances Help Please

Hello Friends!

Okay, I have a question.

I want to go to the University of Chicago. I'm currently a Junior.
I have garbage-ish (B+) grades for my freshman and sophomore years.

BUT! I currently have good grades in all of my classes. I have psat scores of 221. 70CR, 71W, 80M. And, I'm taking a Princeton Review SAT thingy at my school.

Tha't probably going to leave me with a cumulative GPA of around 3.4-3.6 UW, probably like 3.8-4.1 W

I'm taking 5 AP classes. I am pretty sure I'm going to get a 5 in Chemistry and maybe Environmental, and a 4 in English and Geography.

I think I'm taking 6 APs next year. Hopefully I'll do well on those, too.

I have lots o' extracuriculars, and I'm currently the Editor of the school newspaper.

Do I have a decent chance?

Sure you have good chances.

You need to focus on your essays though. If you do well in your classes, show sincere passion for your ECs (it's really best to have fewer ECs that you're really into instead of many that you're not that active in), and write fantastic essays, you have a good chance.

Visit. Do an overnight, and get on the postcard list.

UChicago looks at grades even before essays! Don't worry about your SATs too much, they look good; instead, make sure to boost your grade as much as possible, even perhaps applying RD so you can have senior grades accounted for. Other than that, your set. Just get those essays done early!

I do not believe that University of Chicago does look at any statistical measurement before essays. I got in with a 3.34 GPA, and twenty percent of Uchicago's freshman class was not in the top ten percent of their high school. I think that essays are much more important to Chicago than they are to other schools.
I applied early with those grades, and I was admitted. So I do not think that there is any reason not to if green wants to know his results sooner.

And sorry to be antagonistic,
but about getting essays done early:
whatever works for you. I wrote my three essays the night before the application was due; I still think they were quite good, although this is a risky approach and I don't know if everyone can work under so much pressure.

Huzzah!

My primary concern was that I'm (probably) not in the top 10% of my class, but if 20% isn't, I might have a decent chance. It's also good to know thety have a lot of focus on essays.

Also, what are some topics that the essays might be on?

Well the year before you could write an essay inspired by a giant mustard jar. This year you could write about a mad hatter tea party among other things. The prompts are really uncommon.

But I believe the two short essays are the same each year.

How does chicago satisfy a particular type of learning, community, and future.

Write about your fav books, movies, artists, musical group, etc..

Good luck. Be imaginative. Do NOT give up.

My S was ranked 185/405 and had a 3.46 GPA. There is some indication that strength of curriculum and essays do matter as the admissions folks say.
