Free DVDs from Cal?

I got in the mail today two brand new DVDs, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and The Ice Storm, from Berkeley. It came with a letter reading:

"Dear New Students,

Congratulations on your admission to Cal, and welcome to the College of Letters & Sciences!

We send you these DVDs as part of the On the Same Page program..."

Anyone else get this? Pretty cool I thought :)

These are sent to all L&S freshmen as part of the college's On the Same Page program. This was posted as a message on the MyBerkeleyApplication web site quite some time ago. Some seminars and events this year are tied to this, based on everyone in L&S having watched the same DVDs.

Not sure if anyone besides entering freshmen received them, nor if other colleges besides L&S are participating, but all L&S entering freshmen should recieve them.

I got this in the mail yesterday.

Nothing yet. . .

Hah, but CoE got a USB drive and a lanyard!

Nothing here either, but should be pretty soon.

transfer also, got that almost a week now...

i got them!!!! i watched them too!! they are good, in a strange way...

You guys are so lucky that you got Ang Lee. Last year, we freshman received an extremely boring book about Lincoln.

Sad how they didn't include Brokeback Mountain since I would say that it's one of the director's most popular works. I guess it would've been too controversial but then again The Ice Storm is about swingers.

Yeah, before it was books, now its DVD's?! The funny thing is, the DVD's are probably cheaper.

Sharing is even chea...erm, yeah.

i received them and im a junior transfer student

"The funny thing is, the DVD's are probably cheaper."

The Ice Storm, being a Criterion Collection release, is rather pricey. But I don't know how nice the previous books were, so you might be right.

James Schamus, a CAL grad, wrote both The Ice Storm and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I believe he will be visiting the campus, along with Lee, next year.

oh what the... !!!!

i love those movies. and as said previously, all we got last year was a hopelessly boring book that barely sufficed as a paper weight...sigh :(

College of Chemistry students don't get anything then, I guess :(
