As an engineering major, how many free electives do you normally get? I am heavily leaning towards majoring in engineering, but in addition to liking math and science, I also really enjoy history and other social sciences. I don't want to lose out on getting to take these classes in college, because they are something that I really enjoy. So, for engineering majors out there, do you find that your schedule is engineering heavy, or do you have more balance?

Maybe like one/semester? But son’s school dictated a depth and breadth of electives, as well as mandated tech electives, so he had fewer options that you would think. Originally tried for a double major in German, but couldn’t finish it without either an extra semester or two, or else taking 6 or more classes per semester. Possible but difficult.

It depends on the school’s curriculum. Large public research schools usually follow a strict curriculum(those in the same major will probably have very similar transcripts) with not as many humanities and art as smaller private schools, which often focus on establishing a well-rounded engineer. THESE ARE GENERALIZATIONS!

I did BME, so I took more science courses as part of the curriculum. I had minors in german, and math, and the courses required for those filled up most of the rest of my free electives.
