SORRY. this is my second post with the same stats.. but I have a question about ED.
I would love to go to Cornell, UPenn, or Northwestern.
I understand that they're all reaches for me... but I'm going to give it a shot anyway. I would be completely satisfied if I got into any one of the 3 schools.
Can you please rank my chances in order of best chance to worst chance for early admission to all three schools? I need to decide which school to apply early to, but I'm not completely sure. If I knew where I had the best chance, that would greatly affect my decision, considering I want to go to all 3 schools. Hehe.
Also.... I'm not completely sure what I want to major in... mathematics or engineering. Would I have a better chance of getting into Cornell's CAS as a math major or the Engineering school for civil engineering? I understand Cornell has a great engineering department. Would it be harder to get in?... it has a higher acceptance rate though. @_@

I'm an incoming senior.
I attend a public school that is fairly new. Not developed. Pretty bad school. @_@

I think you should be okay at both Northwestern and Cornell (I've seen several people get in Cornell ED with worse stats than your's. Your SAT isn't THAT bad for Cornell, actually). UPenn would probably be slightly more difficult for you than Cornell and Northwestern, just judging at the numbers that have been rejected by UPenn this year - UPenn is starting to get quite competitive, IMO.

Your ECs are fine - and don't worry about your AP scores. They aren't really considered for admission. Just don't put the 2s and the 3s down when you self-report your scores on the application (well, maybe the 3s, or it might look awkward as you probably took AP classes for them). Your GPA might be weaker for these schools, but you are valedictorian, so I guess that would help (does your school have grade depression? 3.8 uw and val seems quite...unmatched, in a way).

In short, I think you have a good shot actually (your stats aren't as bad as you make them out to be) at Cornell ED, Northwestern ED, and most colleges on your list except UCLA (hard for out-of-state without stellar app), UPenn, Brown, maybe Rice, Dartsmouth (this is a big reach), and Wash U (medium reach). A SAT boost would definitely help in many regards. I see you are NMSF so I think you probably can improve that SAT score with some studying.

Work on your essays (sometimes they really influence the decision) and try to find some good recs! You have a decent chance at these schools if you play your cards right. Good luck, and thanks for the hug. hehe :]

THANKS!! :]
Actually... my unweighted GPA is 3.88, but my school ranks with weighted GPA.
Also, I live in California.. so can I assume it'll be easier to get into UCLA?

you're competitive for some schools like UCLA, BC, Tufts and the others are slight reaches with your SAT 1. UCSD is not a safety, apply to UCI or UCSB.

no ur guaranteed a space at a UC as in UC Merced UC Riverside. Any CA resident who maintains a 3.0 uw and hits certain requirements is guaranteed a UC thats the agreement but its generally Merced or R. If you are talking about it the way you are, then people who hit requirements would just apply to Berkeley.

I know people wiht stats just as good or even better than you not get into UCSD. I know a person with a 3.75 uw and a 2330 and she went to a top 200 school in the nation and UCSD didnt take her. Apply to UCI or UCSB as a safety. As for the others, like i said your competitive at Tufts UCLA BC and maybe even Carnegie Mellon but competition/# of apps is expected to rise next year so its important you brace yourself for the worst rather than applying to a ton of reaches and praying one takes you.

I'm not trying to be mean or burst your bubble but its just really the reality of how college applications are now. It shcoked me how many ppl with great stats did not get into UCLA and UCSD, so I'm just telling you it is wise to have around 2-3 schools you KNOW will take you and then having 2-3 schools that your competitive at and maybe 2 schools that are reaches rather than using the shotgun theory and not getting into anything.
