musicmom, thanks! You made one young man in our home very happy! I don’t know what he plans on spending money on, but he was happy about this offer!

Thank you. I signed up at xmas for amazon prime thinking I would get rid of it in the new year, but have found I save money anyway and have kept it. But now, I will sign up S and use his account to buy and shipp stuff from Amazon. Our bank accounts are linked so I can just transfer the money to him online.

Seems like our family has good company keeping Amazon in business!

Lately, it seems that Amazon has the best combination of price/free shipping on everything I am shopping for…and NO, I don’t work for them!
I’m actually a very thorough comparison shopper. But even bought our new B&D weed wacker from Amazon…not like the old days when it was only books or music.

Glad to hear you guys find it intruiging also!

I love my Amazon prime! My plan was to give D access to it when she is away at school. She already has a credit card on my Amazon VISA account. If you like using Amazon, definitely check out the credit card. It is easy to earn rewards. Plus, the few times I have had problems with items, they have been very accomodating when I point out that I am both a Prime and credit card customer.

Well bummer. Amazon has declared my S’s edu address as invalid … which is isn’t since he’s been receiving email there! I put in an email to Amazon to correct this issue.

Wow…$3.99 for one-day shipping, that would be great for those classes where students aren’t sure whether the textbook is actually required or not! I used to have Prime and it saved me a lot of hassle and money at college shopping/holiday times…now that the kids are older, they do their own buying so I’ll definitely forward the link. Thanks, musicmom!

It pays to hit the books. Amazon is offerjng free Prime memberships, which cost $79 per year, to college students taking at least one class. The main benefit of Amazon Prime is free two-day shipping. I’m guessing this is a not-so-subtle way for Amazon to encourage students to order textbooks through them. There is no minimum order to get the free fast shipping and you can upgrade to one-day shipping for $4 an item. It looks like grad students are eligible too.

To get this deal, you must have a valid .edu e-mail address, which they check by sending a message to the address. You will also need to share the state in which you attend school, your level of study, and your major. It’s OK if your .edu email is not the same as the one associated with your existing Amazon account (if you have one).

This membership does NOT auto-renew, and the freebie deal may be extended past one year, according to Amazon’s fine print. You will receive e-mails from Amazon, so if you don’t like getting them, log into your account and adjust your settings. This is where Amazon highlights their student deals.

I have an .edu email at work, but if I’m being honest, I don’t have a major. :)
