FREE one year Amazon Prime for Students

for those who already have Amazon Prime, is there a reason that you wouldn’t just add your student to your existing account? That’s what I was planning to do (and set up a PayPhrase for her to use for ordering).

That sounds like a plan…for those of us without amazon prime accounts of our own, the free student one is a deal.

It looks like all textbooks that are offered for a good price are not eligible for free shipping. Those that are, however, cost almost the same as at a bookstore

Books sold by third-party sellers through Amazon Marketplace are not eligible, but the books sold by Amazon should be… at least all the books I looked at.

I appreciate free two-day shipping even though I am not planning to buy my textbooks from Amazon. There’s enough other stuff I order from Amazon.

Shipping address doesn’t have to match the school. I have like four different shipping addresses listed and none of them at the moment are even in the same city as my school.

This won’t help me for textbooks since I generally buy them from the marketplace, but when school starts I end up buying a lot of other stuff from amazon. It’s too hard to get stuff home on the bus so I do as much of my shopping online as I can.

Look for the used textbooks and you will generally do better than your on-campus bookstore. I have bought college and hs textbooks and had universally good experiences.

Can anyone who has signed up for this tell if a student can add family members – for example, a married student? I’m a student, so instead of renewing our household membership in the fall, I may take the free student membership. I just have to figure out what my .edu account address is, since I never use it.

Hi im a student (incoming freshman) and happened upon this topic. My dad has a Prime account but I still joyfully got my free account anyways. thanks so much for sharing!!!

Thanks for the info. I am one of those old fogey students at a junior college so i will sign up for that (I assume there is no age restriction)!!

TrinSF, you cannot add family members to the Amazon Student account. However, you can create payphrases that are linked to different payment methods and shipping addresses. You could set up a payphrase for each family member!

mmmm…thanks for mentioning payphrases…I’ll be looking into that!

My husband is going back to grad school this fall, he is also looking at getting textbooks through Amazon…we’ll definitely look at this…

I will also be in grad school this Fall but in the past most of my Amazon orders were from 3rd party sellers, I got deep discounts for almost new books. Would it still be worth it if you did that since they don’t cover them?

It’s worth it to get the books from amazon even if you can’t use amazon prime. I get my books new or like new for half and sometimes even a third of the price for USED books at the bookstore.

I tell you how awful I am – if there’s a book we’re using for part of a semester and I am having problems affording it, I will purchase from Amazon, and then return it if we end up not using much of it, or we get done before the 30 days. I don’t do this all the time; it’s just one of my strategies for saving money on books. I also use book rental (Chegg and other sites), Amazon Marketplace for deeply discounted used textbooks, and the library. I’ve already ordered two $70+ books for the fall semester from Marketplace, they were used copies for under $10 each.

I also will sometimes order more than one used copy if they’re very affordable and I’m worried they’re not going to be a good quality. When they arrive, I keep the nicest one for myself and offer the other one to a classmate who needs it.
