I remember reading somewhere that students can use the printers in the computer labs free of charge. Is this true? Or is there a catch, like having to buy one's own paper?

printing in the dorm computer labs and the artsci computer lab in eads is completely free - no catch.

printing at the library is not free

yeah but the artsci lab in Eads is pretty much seven seconds away, and it's free (as previously stated)

The labs at the dorms have free printing; when I stayed over in April as a prefrosh, I was able to print out my boarding pass to go home free of charge.

I'm not even buying/bringing a printer.

keep in mind that those printers in the dorms are almost always out of ink or out of paper. It's really a good idea to have a printer. I had one, then used the dorm printers to print long papers or when I was out of ink. but it will get annoying to have to run downstairs every time you want to print.

Dorm printers are almost never out of paper, unless the RCC was bad at his/her job - Anyway, RCCs won't exist next year, and printers will be managed by the new Student Technology Services (the soon-to-come replacement for ResTech). I never had issues with the printer last year in my dorm.

the only times i ever had trouble with labs in the dorms running out of paper and ink was in the freshman dorms when papers were due for writing one, particularly the final paper. everyone wanted to print it in the labs for free, just because it was so much paper and ink. anyway, i spent the last month or so of school with neither a computer nor a printer of my own, and i was perfectly fine.
