Im in high school right now and I was just wondering if in college you have more free time. Im not talking about the time you put aside for homework and studying. I am talking about how much time a day/week do you get to just sit and chill. also would you say that high school is better or worse than college.
Generally, I don’t think you’ll have MORE free time in college than in high school. However, you have a lot more freedom over how you organize your life in college, so that’s a big reason why I like college a lot more than high school.
In my experience, if you manage your time right, you should be able to have some down time every single day, though weekends will be where most fun happens. It also depends on your class schedule. I prefer morning classes and finishing classes by early afternoon, so sometimes I get the whole afternoon to do my work, and I can kind of coast a bit in the evening. However some days I work, have club meetings, volunteering, etc so my schedule is a lot more jam packed and I might not get much free time. I know some people who like afternoon classes so they’ll basically sleep most of the morning, and then do all their work in the afternoon or evening. It’s all going to vary depending on your habits, work ethic, course load, and so on.
I would say that I generally don’t do anything class related on Fridays after my classes are done, and I try to do a half and half thing for Saturdays (which doesn’t always end up happening lol). Sundays are absolutely devoted to homework.
If having more free time is something that you want, I have little doubt that you you will have more of it in college. Personally, I find that I have way less free time than I did in high school. That is because I am studying far mkre than I did in high school, and far more in comparison to my peers. Instead of spending those two hours on a Friday evening watching TV or sonething, I usually choose to read over my Bio chapters again. And this attitude really had paid off. I tend to feel that my college life overall is worse than in high school, but that is entirely my fault. I chose to go to a school that I didn’t really want to (with the intent of transfering after two years) just because it is easier academically. No doubt I would be having a better time if I picked the school I like the most right off the bat. But, after two years, I will transfer there, and have a much higher GPA than if I started as a freshman (GPA is only important for me for dental school).
So overall, most people have free time, and most people like college life better.
It depends on your courseload. If you go to school full time you’ll probably have about the same amount of free time. However, it will feel like you have more because:
- No parents forcing you to do various things with your spare time.
- You can structure your class schedule (mostly) how you want, which means you can schedule free time for the time you might most utilize it
Honestly I feel like I have more free time in college. You find that classes take up less time out of your day, maybe 2-3 hours rather than 7-8 hours and you have much more freedom in how you organize your schedule.
IMO college is much better because you get to be on campus with all your friends, there is always something going on, you have the freedom to make your own choices, and you can take classes you are actually interest you, which is a motivating factor. But there is obviously the comforts of home, having adult mentors around you, family, pets, etc. I feel like there is also more pressure to socialize in college, whereas in high school I was perfectly content with just sitting and reading a book at home.
I am in my third year of college now and I have found that free time overall has now decreased, but by choice. I still spend lots of time with my friends, I choose to spend my time with extracurriculars, research opportunities, on-campus jobs, and resume/interviewing for jobs and stuff. So the time I spend just chilling in my room has really decreased, but the things that I feel like I am doing are fulfilling and meaningful
