Free topic essay

Does the Free topic essay hurt your chances when applying?

I can't do anything about it now, but I just feel like I should of chosen one of the two given choices. I chose to write about being an identical twin.

If anybody wants to comment on my chances:
I don't think I really have a hook besides being a good student (maybe my twin is applying??)
I am from Cincinnati

SAT- 2260 (740V/800M/720W)
ACT - 35

GPA- 4.0 UW
Rank (school doesn't rank, in top decile)
13 APs

EC: Vice President of a couple clubs, school rep, work on a farm (5 years, 40 hrs per week during summer and fall), 100 hrs CS at Freestore

From everything I have heard it is not the best way to go but given your stats I don't think it will hurt you too much. Good luck.

They say that they have no preference about which question you do - some people like the freedom of "topic of your choice" and some are helped by having an actual question to answer. I personally went with the topic of my choice because I was able to write a much better essay than I could have with the other two prompts. That being said, they also would like to see the essay tailored to them, and that's easier when you use one of their questions.
