Free Transit Passes

Looks like the resolution of the Redbud situation yielded some perks for us in 2006-07....

<a href="http://www.cornellsun.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/07/18/42dc36da320a0%5B/url%5D">http://www.cornellsun.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2005/07/18/42dc36da320a0</a></p>

oh sweeeeeet

so wait a minute, IF u DONT bring a car, ur automatically given a free bus pass?? did i read that right?????????????????????????/

So is that just for one year (next year)?

i dont get it, lol , so confusing

OK, so there is a problem with parking at cornell--theres just not enough of it. So...

There was this woods on campus where they wanted to build a parking garage.

People got ****ed off and protested.

After much debate, they have finally agreed to distribute free (for us, not for them) buss passes to students who do not apply for a parking permit, as an incentive to reduce the number of students bringing cars.

When will I get this and for how long will this be?

same question, lol, and what happens to those who already bought a buss pass in like that cornell bound thingy or wutever mail it was??? luckily i havent sent it in yet..

martinez, this is for the 2006-07 school year, not this year. So if you want a bus pass, you'll have to buy this year.

That's awesome, thanks for the info!

ye that sucks that we gotta pay

oohh...im bringing a car...guess no freebie for me...

Theres even less parking this year. I read somewhere that theres no parking on West Campus.

While this benefits the probably 80 percent of freshmen who won't be bringing cars, i don't think it's going to reduce the demand for parking on north or anywhere on campus for that matter. If you look at the contents of the parking lots when you get to school you will get the drift of what I'm saying. The people who are willing to swing 500 bucks for a parking sticker arent going to be lured away from this by free bus passes. These kids aren't going to be saying "Dad, actually, I think I'll leave the Range Rover at home and ride the TCATs instead." Point being, I don't think this it's going to solve the parking problem at all. That said, two other things. First, a lot of other major universities have free transit systems for their students, so I think this is a step in the right direction regardless of what events led to this action. Secondly, I'm jealous....I wish i'd had a free bus pass last year!! :D
