Free trips to visit colleges?

My mom's boyfriend was saying that back when he went to college, Columbia flew him out to NY for a week, got him tickets to shows, payed for everything, etc. I tried saying that colleges don't just give you free trips to visit anymore, but he was sure this was not the case. Then again, he and my mother also think that I should be able to get into an ivy with a 3.8 and a 1760 SAT (ha. haha. ha.). I tried explaining that times have changed a lot since then.

So, that brought me to the question: Do colleges who really want you still fly you out to visit their schools ever, or is the completely a thing of the past?

I do know some colleges will pay for you to visit if you are admitted. But usually if you are a URM and they have a program…or if there is a scholarship involved. My DS was flown out for a scholarship to Babson.

Apparently he was flown out to check out colleges before being accepted even. It must have been nice… haha.

Wash U flies out accepted students plus pays cab fare to the school from the airport, regardless of situation.
