DS has a new place with 4 college buds/roomates and none of them wants to pay for cable... they seem to think that there is such a thing as free tv.. where you can watch TV for free via your laptop?

I have never heard of this and think its a bit hinky. I told them that this can't be true and I would ask the folks at CC. I'm just afraid that they will pick up viruses on their computers or its illegal... is this true? Should I come out of the dark ages?

Actually, there is one. There are dozens of websites that post the cable television shows to their website and allow you to watch them for free. They also do this for movies. The place I go to to watch all of my television shows that I may have missed or movies I don’t think are worth paying $10 for to see but want to see anyway is letmewatchthis(dot)com. It’s much cheaper than able as you can keep a little money in your pockets.

Thanks alot yummy! Cable is truly a rip off. So I can see where they wouldn’t want to pay to watch tv if they can watch it for free online, but I just worry that its illegal or the websites will give them viruses.

I just looked at my last satellite bill and the more we use our Roku box the more I am thinking of getting rid of satellite because of the expense. The only real set back would be college sports games which we do enjoy but really at that cost - wow!

@murmur–Yes, its crazy. The bill is crazier and crazier… so many fees for this and that! I just can’t see myself doing away with it! They get you with these “bundles” and make you think you are saving so much $$$… but are you really? I can’t see where anymore to be honest. If it weren’t for my home phone, I would get rid of it all!

My son and his roomies don’t have a home phone. They each have their Iphones so they are not held hostage by any cable company.

Hulu is free. They have a new service called Hulu Plus that lets you watch on your mobile device that runs 10/month. But to watch plain Hulu on computer is free (sometimes you have to wait a bit longer than with Hulu Plus).
I know my son knows a bunch other sites–seems like all the kids do.

Thanks for the info. I have passed it along to other friends who have college kids and their kids love HULU. I am even considering snatching the cable out b/c all I ever watch is the news, Food Network on occasion and history channel. Its such a waste to pay all this $ for 4-5 channels that we watch. I think its a racket if you ask me!

DD is always complaining that we have so many channels but not being able to find anything to watch!

Does anyone else agree with me or am I alone in feeling this way?

^Yes! And half the time, I can’t even figure out to turn the blasted TV set on. I’m pretty good at most technological stuff, but this confounds me. “Mom, you just hit this button here, then switch over and hit that one. Oh, but sometimes you have to…” ARGH! I just want to hit one button and watch the flipping news!
