Freeborn Hall

Can someone please give me some more info on Freeborn Hall??? I didnt even pick it but I got an offer from them....a triple. All I know is that its substance free...which kinda bothers me. Is it social at all....because I'm very social. And do people really uphold to the substance free thing??

come on guys....I need some info!!!

I can't answer your question, but I would LOVE to live in Freeborn. Instead, right now I'm stuck in Stern Hall. Want to trade?!

come on guys....I need some info!!!

even if its not social youre still smack in the middle of unit 1, just walk outside. seriously I would cut off my arm for freeborn right now, my left arm mind you

My parents toured Freeborn on Cal Day and said it was very quiet but nice and clean. The rooms are spacious compared to UCLA for triples and they were "cheery" compared to the dungeon like halls at UCLA. The guide told them they do enforce the no drinking/drugs. They won't let you in if you have alcohol on your breath. My mom was all for that! I got unit 3. It was 1st choice I think.

i lived in freeborn last year. i was a little disappointed with the social atmosphere as it is definitely more quiet than the other buildings in unit 1. everything is generally cleaner tho... but i think it's what you make out of it, if you want your floor to be social, it probably will be.

want to trade? i'm going to be in bowles..you'll have a blast there

no substance = no alcohol.....but thats pretty lame, everyone has alcohol. it just means if you're caught with it, you get punished more severely

a lot of people in freeborn are higher than the moon!

I was just wondering, I heard rumors, I think on another thread about Freeborn, that a lot of people in there were religious. I will be rooming there next year, and as a liberal Athiest, it concerns me a little. I wanted to try and get some other peoples opinions on Freeborn, as I only heard this rumor from one person. Opinions anyone???

How do yall know what building you got!! WTF!

Since you have to request substance free, its a separate choice, you are informed if you received that choice. So I think it's only Freeborn kids that know the building. Any Freeborn Info people?!?

There are a lot of religious people in all the dorms. There's a slightly greater proportion of Christians in Freeborn, but not significant enough to make a difference, or for you to even notice, for that matter.

That being said, the religious beliefs of others in your building shouldn't concern you anyways. I trust that you won't be staying up at night fearing that they'll try to convert you while you sleep. :-P

As pookdogg said, there are religious people in all the dorms, and I would guess a slightly higher concentration in Freeborn, but not too significant, at least from my experiences. The place seems to have its own social atmosphere, different from the other buildings in the units. It seems to have closer ties, at least from my perspective.

Closer ties how, DRab? And by different social atmosphere are we talking, like, the kids would rather play board games than go out to a party/clubbing.

and of course, pookdogg, i'm not going to discriminate who I make friends with based on their religion, but to be absolutely honest, I think everyone feels comfortable with people like themselves, and that's all I was curious about. Anyway, no matter the situation, I can't change it, but I'm just curious what to expect. Thanks to everyone who inputs their opinion.

Also, about what percentage of the kids don't want to be there? I heard that it's 18%, i don't know where I got that stat, but that's just what I heard.

Thanks

well at least i dont have to worry anymore....I got my assignment changed to a unit 1 mini suite so I'm happy

My first year I got roomed in the Units, and I had an uber-uber-uber-religious roommate. Wherever you're roomed, you will always have that risk.

I agree with dolitwalk. There's a point when religion is just too much. When your roommate is criticizing you for wearing makeup or cursing, then you know there's going to be problems.

wow, that's scary. lets hope that doesn't happen to me. But i'm glad at least to hear that freeborn doesn't have a monopoly on those types. If I understood correctly, you didn't room in freeborn, right?

dolitwak, some just seem to have a certain type of bond, a commonality that many of the other buildings lack. They have something that ties them together more than just chance . . .
