Hello!

I should be applying for Freeman--just need to write those essays, sigh.

Where are you from, btw?

Hi!
I'm from mainland,China.
When do you plan to have your application sent?

End of this month, I think. How are your essays coming along? I haven't started on mine yet. :P

Haha,I haven't started either......
But I'm conceiving.

My brain's kinda fried after STPM (M'sia's equiv. of A-levels) and SAT I.
When will you be sending in your application?

Well around December20 I think.
I will use UPS or FedEx.
And what about you?How are you going on with your STPM?Ha

'Twas over last week :)
I'm sending it to the AIG office in Kuala Lumpur, so I'll send by registered mail (or national courier if I'm late :p).

Hm... I wonder if there are other applicants here...

Where exactly did you guys get the application form for Freeman? I requested one but still haven't heard anything from them. They request more than 1 essay??

Hey guys, hello from a Freeman '09. I'm from Vietnam by the way. I hope more people will frequent this page soon :) We had a pretty big and diverse group last year. So far, you guys have 1 from PRC, 1 from Malaysia and 1 from Vietnam (?).

@giangLe: You can get 1 from IIE. And I Believe it's already said on the webpage. And yes, there are 2 essays.

Good luck guys :)

im korean citizen, living in the U.S.
eff green card.

can i apply to freeman?

I think you can if you're korean citizen. But email them and check again.

I'm thinking of applying for it. I know preference is given to people who live in their home country (in fact, the email I sent asking if I was eligible stated that. :p) but if you don't apply, you won't know! I just hope if I make a finalist, the interview won't be the same weekend as my basketball tournament.

ngohuongly, I imagine the interviews are given the same way in each country. Is it like one huge meeting somewhere in a hotel or something, then you get...taken aside or...?

I very much doubt they'll accept me. I'm not exactly representative of Malaysia.

i'm not sure if preference is given to those who live in their home countries or not. I think in my year, there are actually 5 or 6 kids who were studying/living abroad when they applied.

if by "given the same way" you mean the basic format/ structure of the interviews, I think yes. You arrive at the hotel at the time assigned to you, and then go into a room to have the interviews. And then, you have the reception when you meet other kids and parents of current students and some other people. It's a lot of fun :)

Heya! How's applications coming along? All the best to everyone! :)

Application is not going well...and it's only four days...three...less than!

Hey, I'm applying too! I've heard getting this scholarship is freakishly hard, so I'm fine-tuning my essays until they're earth-shattering. I might send them by courier tomorrow afternoon.

Really Dumb Question: which envelope to use? Do you use the small white one, right, with "Wesleyan Freeman Asian Scholars Program c/o _______________________" on it?

God, I cannot WAIT to finish this!

I used my own envelop... thought the envelop they provided was too flimsy considering it is to contain the entire application! Was damn paranoid that the whole package might be lost... but thank god my application reached Wesleyan safely! Just got an acknowledgement email yesterday. :)

Good luck to those who are still writing their apps!

I'll also use my own envelope. Have to, since the GC's recommendation and school profile didn't fit in her designated envelope. :p

I'm sending mine off tomorrow. I'm a little worried about which 2nd essay to choose from. Influence (my sis) or the community we lived in (which is already mentioned in the first essay). Grr. I hate similar essay topics. Makes me go INSANE.

Hey... Does the WesCheck also apply to Freeman Scholar applicants? I sent my SAT and TOEFL scores to Wesleyan University and I'm wondering if they actually...GOT there...
