Did you meet said big scary officials? Are they burly and wear shades in rooms?

Oh yes, about a week after arrival we actually had a little 'meet the selection committee' thing. They sat there looking at us. We smiled sweetly. They pounced and ate 3 of us before we got away.

And you survived! Oh, thank the Gods and Goddesses for that blessing! That's why you mustn't wash yourself much! Otherwise you smell too sweet and succulent! (Like in Roald Dahl's book "Witches")

P.S. Is it just me or is the CC clock 12 minutes behind?

Big burly officers... Reminds me of those bodyguards in Hong Kong movies. :p

Do any of you know when we hear back about finalist status?

Eric_Sia: Do you know of any Freeman Scholars who didn't live in their homeland? Also, how do you like Wesleyan?

According to email from Ms Shaw, interviews will be held late Feb to early Mar. She said we'll have ample time to prepare, so I guess early Feb to mid Feb?

Eeeks... Just read what I wrote, and it's freaky... :(

Freaky deaky indeedy! (Heh, I'm a nerd.)

Wow. It's already January 27th. Good luck, everybody!

does anyone noes whether the finalist notification will be via email? snail mail? or call by local AIA/AIG/AIU/... reps? so scary...

I would...think...email. Snail mail is too slow and it wouldn't let someone "be notified in plenty of time to get to the location of the interview." (Or that's just my paranoia about mail here.)

Oh, gah. I'm so scared. Four more days until the end of the month.

Reread the email from Ms. Shaw.

"Applicants who do not reach the finalist stage will receive a letter by regular mail on or around April 1." This depresses me. Why??? Can't they just send emails or quick notification to the finalists in February and then slow snail mail to non-finalists so we have closure instead of waiting through Feb and March for that dreaded rejection letter?? wails :( I need chocolate.

yeah i guess its email too... but colleges do funny things sometimes. hmm i guess if we dun receive anything a couple of wks after someone else here did (surely CC will have some finalists rite :)), we should know we r rejected liao... so actually a confirmatory rejection letter isn't really necessary i guess...

Yeah, it isn't necessary, but it's something tangible. sniffles I need something physical (or in an email) to get closure sometimes. :p

I suppose it's so they can send rejection/acceptance letters to all Wesleyan applicants at one time, i.e. the non-Freeman Asian Scholars applicants, too. :)

hello123: last year we had a Korean who was living in Venezuela, a Taiwanese in Japan, and a Japanese living in England. Not too sure about the Japanese guy, never really asked about his background. Of course, there were also a number of those who received some of their education in countries other than their own. It seems to me that ASEAN Scholars who studied in Singapore are just a little over-represented.

Wesleyan has been great. I really like the fact that we have such a large range of courses to choose from. There is one where you sing in a choir for a semester for credit. And it's a guaranteed 'A'! The campus in my opinion just the right size. Getting to classes is never more than a 10 minute walk, and its pretty too. Middletown is right next to the university, so shopping is generally quite convenient, and if you get bored of dining hall food you can always have food delivered. New York and Boston are 2 hours away by bus, not too bad for a visit over the weekend.

eric, when were you informed abt the interview?

i second that question... the wait is unbearable...

It's already the 31st of January....

Well... I do not remember exactly. Looking back I find no mention of it in either my journal or calendar. I would hazard a guess that I received the letter within the first 2 weeks of February.

Eric, so does that mean you received a letter that notified you of your finalist status? or did you also receive a phone call/email?
btw, do you know who the 2005 filipino freeman scholars are? one is brian jalijali, i think..

Who's Brian Jalijali?

First two weeks of February... stares at calendar

Oops, sorry. Didn't read Pierre's post properly.
