Thanks, Eric. Darn, I should obviously reread posts before I...ask idiotic questions. crygoose...

news: about 10 minutes ago, i just got a call notifying me of the interview on february 24th... (im from the philippines) :) i have a very, very slim chance, though... what with 11 finalists!!!

congrats pierremarie! but sigh i think i'm hopeless...

thanks woebegone! :) i'm praying you'll get interviewed, too! i think it's only here in the philippines where they use the "calling system" to notify us because the post office here takes time... :) i'm sure you'll get your notification soon!

eric (malaysian scholar '09) said they were also notified through phone first before they received the snail mail... Btw Mrs Shaw only asked for my SAT results 2 days ago and I faxed it yesterday... by when the decisions should have been made already?! I am not very hopeful...

Hahahaa!!! Congrats, PierreMarie!! awed Oh, wow...that's just freaking awesome!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Who cares if there are eleven other Filipino finalists??? You're a finalist. You're one step closer!

how many finalists per country?
how many scholars per country?

naw i will not freak out (:
congrats kids.

I don't know about finalists, but it's two scholars per country. So that's eleven countries, 22 Scholars/year so that'd make 88 Freeman Scholars at Wesleyan at any one time, which is a LOT of money... :o I am awed.

The number of finalists varies by country. There is no set number, though it never strays too far from 10.

woebegone: i don't think ms. shaw would ask for your SAT scores at the last minute if you're not a prospective finalist ;) so keep your fingers crossed! i'm sure your notification will come soon :D

IzzyJ: thanks! :D :D :D your post sure did make my heart fat! have you already been notified? :) all the best for you, too!!! :D

i just browsed through this web site: http://www.wesleyan.edu/fasa/alumni/memberslist.htm and found out that it is possible to have more than 2 Freeman scholars from a country (eg. 2003-Indonesia). Not sure, though...

Hmmm..how peculiar. And there's only one Freeman Taiwan Scholar for 2003, too... Maybe to offset?

Straaaange.

Have I already been notified? Pwsah. I bet I'll be notified in April with a rejection letter. :)

haha i'm keeping my fingers crossed yeah. i was so anxious that i emailed my local AIG representative to ask if she has received the list of finalists and she said she hasn't... strange that the results are not released to all the AIG branches at the same time...

my AIG representative received the list today and she told me i'm not on the list... so yeah... the first of 8 rejections to come....

Oh, woebegone!!! hugs you I'm sorry, mate! I don't even know who my AIG rep is... Didn't bother contacting him/her... :o (My mistake)

hugs woebegone again Do you want any chocolate? I might even offer a foot massage...

And it may be the first rejection, but it definitely doesn't mean the other seven will be! First impressions never last, right? Right?

thanks... but chocolate makes me put on weight! i had enuff of it during chinese new year, trying really hard to neutralize its disastrous effects now.

well, it's hard to be optimistic really. this first rejection kinda serves as a litmus test for my subsequent admission decisions... to be very frank, i thought i had a gd chance of getting the scholarship initially (as opposed to getting into other colleges) simply because financial aid wasn't an issue here (i asked for near full rides at everywhere else) and i didn't have to compete with other internationals and the singapore applicant pool is really just so small... (disportionately huge for ivies but certainly not for LACs) i dun even noe of another soul (singaporean) applying! never did i expect to not even get the interview... so yeah it came as a distressing and rude shock, and certainly doesn't bode very well for my subsequent decisions.

Less than 2 months before my american dream ends... it's about time anw. i've been dreaming for way too long...

(Are you a chica or chico?)

It is not a litmus test! There are a lot of Singaporeans and I'm sure a lot of them have applied to the Freeman Scholarship, but it's hard to find them. I'm sure the Freemans and Wesleyan Uni advertised the Freeman Scholarship well and I found out about it not while visiting Wesleyan's site, but while searching for international scholarship in the US. Perhaps a lot of S'poreans found out about Wesleyan Freeman that way, too. :(

hugs you again Don't worry. I don't remember what other schools you applied to, but I'm sure you stand out in a way. To be confident enough to apply to Freeman means there's something in you that you believe in!

woebegone: i haven't gotten anything from my AIG rep either. no email, no phone call.

woebegone: i haven't gotten anything from my AIG rep either. no email, no phone call.

izzy: what's the chica or chico question about? anw... wesleyan didn't do much advertising in Singapore during our batch... most people haven't heard about the scholarship and those who did are probably not too inclined in applying because they are more erm caught up with the ivies and government scholarships. but maybe dey did more advertising with the next batch. heard admission reps went to my school this year... but oh well.

enlit: no news means there's still hope... especially if no other malaysian has heard any news. singapore AIG received the list 2 days after vietnam and philippines so it's not too suprising if malaysia receives even later... yup all the best!

chica is "girl" in Spanish. chico is "boy" in Spanish. I was asking if you were male or female.

Ooh, I would've thought there'd be more...advertising. But, yeah, internationally Ivies + SM still make the world go round.
