Wish we had water in the door! But I love bottom freezer. So nice to have everything in fridge at non-bending height!
We finally gave up on trying to find a white French Door counter depth fridge. The companies all have the making of these on pause, and arenāt even taking orders.
BUT we found a great Whirlpool side by side white counter depth and supposedly itās being delivered Saturday! Stay tuned! Itās really fine and the configuration of the inside has really changed since our first side by side. We hope it really gets here.
So we need a new fridge too. Ours is now freezing our eggs. We (I) want stainless French doors with water and ice dispenser. Is it better to have one or two freezer drawers? Do we want counter depth? Thanks.
If I had to pick, I would go for one drawer - more inner space. The brackets etc. used to support two drawers take up a lot of useful space.
We were exactly in the same boat!
Our refrigerator was freezing, but thatās a lot better than getting not cooling at all ,and all your food spoiling That allowed us to survive for 2 months as we went through a fiasco with the repair company and finally deciding to get a new fridge. Then, we had to deal with the very low availability of essentially any model that we really wanted.
We finally got our first choice, which is a Bosch with 2 vertical fridge doors, a horizontal fridge drawer for produce etc, and the bottom horizontal drawer for the freezer. The water dispenser is on the inside, and we have an internal ice-maker with no dispenser.
As you can read from my comments on this thread, it was a HELL of an ordeal, but we finally got one by continuously looking, checking every big box and local retailer we could find. We got one of the last ones in the Bay Area and had it delivered in about 4 days after placing the online order. It was a complete stroke of luck that we got it. Other retailers (including HD) were saying it could be 2022 before we got it, as it was so back-ordered.
Try to stick it out as much as you can, since you have a fridge that is overcooling. So, donāt rush it if you can avoid it. In our case, as for the old fridge, it was basically an internal door between the freezer section and the fridge that wasnāt working. Since the compressor is tied to the freezer, thatās where the cooling came from, and the internal door between the two regulated the temperature in the fridge side. The parts were back-ordered, and since we had a home warranty, our cost to repair would have been less than $100 all in. However, the repair company proved to be so awful that we finally gave up and got the warranty company to cash us out on the repair, which we used to defray the cost of the new Bosch.
You can always turn off your fridge for a few hours to keep stuff from freezing (donāt open the doors)ā¦it aināt great, but it bought us time. And in this time of horrible supply chain issues, you need that time to get what you want.
Best of luckā¦I SINCERELY mean that, as we were in your shoes until just a few weeks ago.
ETA: on the counter depth, we had no choice, as thatās all we could install in the kitchen. It does limit your inside space, but consider what your family needs. For us, the counter depth one was fine. We donāt have all that much frozen stuff, so we opted for a smaller freezer and more fridge space (the top half with the vertical doors, and the first horizontal drawer).
What sold me on the Bosch (my wife was long sold on it) was the fact that it had two separate compressors, one for each of the fridge and freezer. To that extent, if we ever have a compressor failure, we hopefully will have another functioning compressor so that everything doesnāt get spoiled.
I would have to agree. Each drawer takes up inside storage space. In our case we wanted a fridge drawer and a separate freezer drawer, so our configuration is a bit different.
One thing: if you have a single large freezer drawer, make sure that you can get at all things you need without having to take stuff out.
Thanks. We do have a separate freezer in our basement, so Iām hoping that helps with the freezer drawer.
And Tada! Our new white counter depth side by side Whirlpool fridge was delivered today exactly as promised. We ordered it last Sunday! Itās plugged in and cooling down quickly. It looks nice in our kitchen (we have a Whirlpool stove so the handles are the same). This fridge is humming. The GE it replaced sounded like a train engine when running.
Iām sure I will get used to the side by side configuration again. And really, I only need to like this for 7 years, right.
The next owner of this house can replace all the (relatively new) appliances with stainless if they want to.
Congrats!!
