French III or Yearbook?

Hey guys! First post here- I saw it a while ago, and now I need advice so I thought I’d come here. Essentially, I’m going into junior year next year (17-18 school year) and I have the option of either taking French III (and then taking Honors French 4 senior year), or joining yearbook. I don’t really like french, however I already am dropping band this year so I maybe want something that I could do all 4 years. While I feel that Yearbook would be fun and informative (as I may want to go into publishing and editing books), I heard that junior year you should take the hardest classes, and obviously french III is more rigorous than yearbook. Currently I am signed up for yearbook but open to change. If it helps, my schedule next year will be:
Yearbook or French III
Chemistry
Algebra II/Trig
AP Lang
AP Psych
Religion class (I go to a catholic school lol)
US History (I got offered APUSH but i heard it is A LOT and I don’t have the time, I’m involved in a lot of extracurriculars)
Clarifications: no I can’t take 8 classes, only 7, and if I did yearbook, I’d probably take it the next two years.

If you’re not majoring in humanities or foreign languages, I would recommend opting out of French. The requirement for most colleges is two years of one foreign language.

Also, I read your other post. Ask yourself, do you want to take yearbook for the experience, or possibly for other reasons?

Do you have any ideas what sort of colleges you are targeting? I’d do French if your college list is pretty selective.

@mohchan360, like I said in the other post - i have no clue what class my crush is doing, so Yearbook doesn’t really have anything to do with them, it’s just a class that everyone says is fun so I’d take it instead of a language.

@AroundHere currently I am interested in UCSB, and Boston University, among others around the US. For those two specifically, should I stick with French or not (if you happen to know)?

Many colleges want to see that you have completed a foreign language through at least the 3rd year. If your college list isn’t finalized to the point that you can say with 100% confidense that you will not need that 3rd year of french, you should not stop at this point.

Officially BU is two years of foreign language required, four recommended. But for a school with a 29% acceptance rate, I’d exceed the minimum requirement.

@sodgrass22 Hi! UCSB grad here. Unfortunately the UC’s require 3 years of a foreign language. I only took 2 years in high school, and ended up having to take 3 quarters in college because I didn’t satisfy the requirement in high school (ironically because I took Yearbook instead :-). Happy you asked now and didn’t make the same mistake I did. Good luck getting into UCSB btw! Go gauchos!

I would get through French 4 before you drop it. See if you can join the school newspaper instead.
