French SAT Subject Language Test

If I want to take the french subject test, should I take the reading version or the reading & listening version? Is one regarded a lot higher than the other?

not really. The listening is only offered once a year.

Yes, it’s offered once a year-- in November. It’s also somewhat harder. If your listening skills are not up to par, I wouldn’t take that one. The trade off, though, is that there is less grammar and reading comp, because the test is always one hour. If you want to study more French, and you are a very good student, I would recommend taking the test with listening. However, it’s not at all necessary to take that one. If and when you get to Brown (or any school, I would guess), and you want to study French, you will probably want to take a language placement test to ensure you are taking the correct course, unless your SAT II or AP score is sufficient to place properly. My recommendation would be to buy a practice book that has a listening CD, as well as past tests. You can see, then, if it’s right for you. BTW, I am a French teacher.
