I have been going back and forth on which French class to take since Bama Bound. I placed into “202+”, but I spoke with one of the Avanti leaders, and she said it is typical for people to start with 201 which is a lot more review, whereas 202 is more speaking. I took French through junior year in high school and would have been in AP senior year, but decided to drop it. I was always better with writing and grammar, and not great at speaking and listening. I’m trying to minor in French, so if I start with 201, it’s just one more semester of French I have to fit in. I’m starting to stress about all of the requirements for a double major, minor, plus UHP and IHP, so the idea of not taking an extra semester of anything sounds ideal right now.

The 201 is honors with Bruce Edmunds, who gets spectacular reviews on RateMyProf.
The 202 is regular with Shane Emplaincourt and Isabelle Drewelow.

I love French very much, so I am more than willing to put in the work to get a good grade in a more challenging class – however, I have had many experiences where I spend all of class hiding because I don’t understand a word the teacher is saying and am embarrassed by my speaking ability (or lack thereof), so I am worried about ending up in a situation like that.
