Hey, im an incoming freshmen and i had a few questions
1. what are we required to take?
2. if foreign language is a requirement will American Sing Language count towards that?
3. can a freshmen post their typical schedule?
4. can we get into any classes that we actually want?

also i wanna do kelly my sophomore year
these are the requirements on the site for getting in after your freshmen year at indy:
* Completion of 26–70 hours of college coursework. (For transfer students, this includes completion of at least one semester on the Bloomington campus.)
* Consistent “B” performance across all courses. Please note that a B– does not meet this requirement. The Admissions Committee reviews grades in all courses, not just business courses.
* Completion of ENG-W 131 Elementary Composition (or equivalent).
* Completion of three or more of the following admissions courses:
o MATH-M 118 Finite Mathematics
o MATH-M 119 Brief Survey of Calculus
o BUS-K 201 The Computer in Business
o BUS-X 100 Introduction to Business Administration OR BUS-G 100 Business in the Information Age
* Demonstrate commitment to course load. Students with no W’s in coursework have stronger applications.

what else do they take into account?
is it hard to get in as a soph?

In retrospect I would switch COLL-E 126 for a business class.
I don’t think american sign language counts towards the language requirement.
If you sign up for classes early enough you will be able to get into a lot of the classes you want. If you sign up late you will get about half the classes you want at times you do not want.

To get into Kelley sophomore year you need a 3.1-3.2 min GPA and a B or better in BUS-A 100, MATH-M 118/119, and BUS-K 201. It is also recommended to be involved in a club or two.

A typical Kelley school freshman schedule will have the following courses:

ENG W131 English Composition
BUS-K 201 The Computer in Business
BUS-X 100 Introduction to Business Administration
BUS-A 100 Basic Accounting Skills first 8 weeks
MATH-M 118 Finite Mathematics
MATH-M 119 Brief Survey of Calculus
CMCL-C 121 Public Speaking (replaces BUS-X 104)
for a total of 19 units (all of these are 3 units except for BUS A-100, which is 1 unit)

Then, in addition, you will want to take some general education classes, or some area studies courses or possibly some economics or other I-Core prerequisites, in order to get up to around 31 units total for the year. Some examples are:

General Education courses
A philosophy course
A political science course
A sociology course
A history course
A telecommunications course
A journalism course
A music course
A course on intelligence and national security

Area Studies courses (meets the International Dimension requirement if you decide not to do a semester overseas)
GEOG G101 World Regional Geography
A course in Chinese literature, or Western European Thought, etc.

I-Core Prerequisites
ECON-E 201 Introduction to Microeconomics
ECON-E 202 Introduction to Microeconomics
BUS-X 220 Career Perspectives second 8 weeks (worth 2 units)
BUS-X 201 Technology (suggest you take this as a sophomore)
BUS-X 204 Business Communications
BUS-G 202 Corporate Social Strategy
BUS-A 201 Introduction to Financial Accounting (suggest you take this as a sophomore)
BUS-A 202 Introduction to Managerial Accounting (suggest you take this as a sophomore)
BUS-L 201 Intro to Business Law (you have to be a sophomore before you are allowed to take this one)

Thanks, maxcellis, for the correction. Also, BUS X302 and BUS X-420 are requirements, but BUS X302 must be taken during the junior year, while BUS X420 is taken either concurrently with I-Core or in the senior year.

Thank you Maxcellis - I asked this on another thread, does Kelley DA require a language to graduate? If so, how many credits and can it be a pass/fail?

with the placement tests that we take during orientation? would i be so bad to not do so well on them and get in the easy course your freshmen year?

lightening–I believe the problem with that strategy is that you must meet certain minimum standards to get into M118 for the business school. The math classes that are easier than M118 won’t help you get in, and you will still have to take it. No one will force you to take M211 instead of M119 even if you score high on the math portion.
