Freshman 2014. What are my chances?

Hey there. Thanks in advance for reading what I have to say.

I'm Kristi and I'm a rising IB senior at my local high school. (Florida student with Florida prepaid) I'm Pacific Islander and the second in the family to go to college
Basically I will give you my break down about my stats and ECs/Community service

GPA : weighted 3.3
SAT: 1860 (first try)

I'm doing virtual school for two classes to receive grade forgiveness which will give me a 3.5-3.6
(I did one semester in one week, good work ethic)

Clubs: Juniorettes two years, NAHS two years, Key club three years, Fca Three years, wrestling club three years, IB Club two years

Job: two jobs since freshman year (retail and food)

Community service: very involved with church- every Tuesday teachers religious education, traveled across US for three years for mission trips
300+ hours

Personal life: I've been blind in my right eye since I was 7 which causes a lot of problems, at 16 I was diagnosed with both graves and hashimottos thyroid disease, 16 I had clinical depression, trichotellimania and severe anxiety

When I was a freshman my sister got arrested. Then again when I was a junior. My mom works two jobs and I also help support my family. My dad lost his business and we might loose our house.

Please look at all my information and if you questions ask me. I'm not a stupid student. I've had a lot of things happen to me and they have all made a stronger and more outgoing person. UF is my dream school (applying for IA and summer B)

UF using Holistic Admissions. 50% is GPA/Test/Rigor, the other 50% is EC’s/Leadership/Essay.

Your SAT is ok, but your GPA is low. Hopefully you’ve taken a rigorous course load (for your High School), as that is something UF considers. Taking the SAT again and raising your score will help compensate a bit for your GPA (but UF does give more weight to GPA than test scores).

Your EC’s are strong and your ECs can help make up for your GPA. UF will consider all of the obstacles you’ve had to overcome in your life. This adds a wild card to your application, so even with the low GPA, you may still want to apply.

The Freshmen profile:

Mid 50% GPA: 4.1-4.5
Average GPA: 4.3
Mid 50% SAT: 1840-2100
Average SAT: 1967

Even if you’re not accepted at UF, you’ll have other options (especially if you can raise your SAT score). You’re likely be admitted to any other state University (FSU, UNF, UCF, USF, FIU, etc.), and at some of these schools you may be able to earn merit (with any need based aid), so they could be better choices financially (though UF does offer decent Need based aid).

Finally, as you can see from the “Transfer Student” thread, many folks go to a local CC for two years and then successfully transfer to UF. For you, this may be the best option, especially if you’re not offered significant need/merit based aid.

Bottom line, apply to UF, it will be a reach, but you also should apply to some of the other universities. Then take into account any need/merit based aid when you make your choice.

Good Luck!!

Hi thank you for taking the time to answer me your responses were really useful! During high school I did 4 years of IB
