Freshman admissions

I know we could call - but maybe someone here knows the answer. My son submitted his application in August. He rcvd an email confirming receipt of his application and saying that they were switching to a new computer program and that he would receive an email in late September with info about the new online tracking and application status system. Well - it is now early October and he has not rcvd such an email. We have sent test scores and the transcript - I think his file should be complete - but we have not heard anything since August.

Has anyone else rcvd a more recent communication? Do you think he should call and ask if his file is complete?

Have your son call. Everyone in the admissions office is super; they’ll be more than willing to help you out and check on it. I have heard about pieces of people’s applications getting lost/separated in the system changeover this year, and while their applications were found and straightened out, it’s still something you want to know for sure! In those cases, admissions was aware of the problem first and did contact the students in question directly, but calling can’t hurt. Better to be safe than sorry!

My application got messed up last year. All I had to do was call, and everything got straightened out (and this was after the deadline for the app). Your son is better off safe then sorry.

There is an online application checklist where you put in your name and dob and it tells you what documents have been received, and what is still outstanding. But a phone call would probably be better.

Thank you! I found the online status checker and his file is complete! Glad you prompted me to look for it on the website - I was thinking we needed to wait for an email with a special password to login.

You just need your name, DOB and email address to use it.

We are still waiting for the HS transcript! It is really frustrating to have to rely on the HS registrar office to send out your stuff on time!

Yup, we ran into the same problems. My son intentially applied just before the deadline, and held back on having his transcripts sent until after the end of the first semester of high school - so that he would have his first semester grades on the transcript (which he made a special effort to bring up to all A’s). Apparently the high school was changing over their system, and report cards came out MONTHS late, we kept checking with the school to see if they sent out the transcrips, they kept telling us they would to it tommorrow. Eventually, we were down to the wire on the USC deadline for transcripts, the school promised that they would send out transcripts on the deadline day and that they would be postmarked.

Ultimately, USC did get the transcript, but come to find out, it didn’t include his all A’s senior first semester (many weeks after that semester ended). He did manage to get in, so all was fine.
