Freshman alternate major into CS HELP

So I was admitted by UCSB but under my alternate major(undeclared letters of science). Is there a way I can change my major to Computer Science into the College of Engineering before I start classes. OR what is the process and the change for me to change majors after I get the necessary credits done. I want to know how the process is and the possibility of becoming a CS major later. ALso has anyone done this before and what was it like? Thanks.

Even if you complete the requirements, there is no guarantee there will be open spots. Have a back up plan.

If you are sure you want to major in CS, and if you were admitted directly to CS at another college, then the best decision would be to go to that other college. On the other hand, if you are sure you want to go to UCSB, and if you would be OK with an alternate major if you don’t get into CS when applying as a sophomore transfer (after 2 years at UCSB), then go to UCSB.

There’s a thread from last year on this topic:

If I were you I would go to another college if you already have your major as CS there. It is very hard to switch majors if they aren’t within the same college (ex: environmental to molecular biology). If you have other options where you have CS as your major go there unless you really like UCSB but there is not guarantee you’ll get classes
