Freshman Car Rule

Hi everyone. I’m going to be a freshman this fall and I was just wondering if there were any viable ways to “get around” the freshman no-car rule this year. I might have the opportunity to do an internship at a local congressperson’s office but the nearest bus stop to the office would still leave me with quite a walk. Any suggestions would be helpful…thanks!

There are areas around 8th-10th Ave. that some freshman used to park there cars. Just make sure the area doesn’t require permit and it shouldn’t be too hard to leave your car there.

If you have any upperclassmen friends who live in the dorms, you could try to get them to buy a pass for your car. (they must live in the dorms for you to be allowed to get a pass to park your car overnight).

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

The South Campus Gateway offers monthly parking that freshmen are eligible for. Or, if you have a friend living in the off=campus area that has a off-street parking pass that they dont need/use, perhaps talk to them.

Are you sure about the bus stop? If the congressperson’s office is on Capitol Square like they all should be, the #2 bus leaves right from campus and goes right there. Parking downtown is pretty expensive so honestly a bus is a way better option even if you have a car.
